You might make that wrong assumption, yes. I happened to see the shot of him walking into the locker room and hear the announcers announce his replacement, so I knew what time it really was.

Ok. I constantly am fast forwarding & rewinding to see how some O-Line, defensive players or Dak did that play or if he made the wrong read and missed someone open throughout the game. So probably just missed it..

Lol we have all come to terms he is the 10th or 11th best player among the defensive starters. He is a serviceable starter that occasionally makes plays. Would like to see him as a 3rd safety and special teams player, which would be the perfect role.

Last year of contract so we'll see what happens next year. Watch for a 2 year 4.5 million contract, haha.
This x100

He's a quality rotational guy with added special teams abilities.

If he's your designated long term starter then you have some serious issues with both drafting and acquiring low to mid level free agents.

Since Jeff Heath was benched at Halftime the Giants only scored 6 Points and had 124Yards (Giveortake a few). Take away the Barkley Lucky Screen and they completely shut down the Giants in the 2nd Half.

The Addition of Jourdan Lewis and Jeff Heath being benched may be the Start of a new Era for this Defense...
I thought Darian Thompson had a little something. Wouldn't mind seeing more of him. Anyone is better than Heath

came in the 4th quarter while they were in man
Coverage and Jaylon Smith was MAn’d up on Barkley.

Only big play they surrendered in the 2nd half and it was against one of the best RB’s in the League.

Barkley 65 yard screen pass (4th Quarter):
  • Jaylon was NOT "MAn'd up" on Barkley.
  • Lewis was the first defender and did nothing to slow Barkley.
    • This is a good example of where Brown has been better. Brown has a good ability to shed blocks.
  • Jaylon over-ran the play going too far to the outside.
  • Lee almost got there.
    • Lee has been great in this game and the Eagles game but this is one he probably would have made a few years ago.
  • Awuzie didn't slow him down. He should have at least made a diving attempt.
    • The coaches film is not available yet, but on the broadcast view it appears the WR might have held Awuzie.
  • Woods should have cut off the outside path.
    • I understand he wanted to make the tackle by going back inside but there were other defenders on the inside but none on the outside.
  • Safety Thompson was coming from the other side.
    • He just does not have the speed/range that Heath has to have a chance to run down a player like Barkley.
  • Byron Jones finally ran him down at the sideline.

Tate 16 yard reverse to the offensive-right (2nd Quarter):
  • Who made the tackle to save the 16 yard reverse by Tate from going for a TD? Answer Jeff Heath.
    • The DE DLaw was totally out of position on that play and neither LB was anywhere in sight on that side of the field.
    • The Giants had an OL out to restrict Heath's path laterally (sideways) which is the #1 issue the Cowboys LBs had in the Rams playoff game.
    • Heath managed to get around the block and make the tackle.

Oh boy. More Heath excuses.

He's not good and was exposed to a national audience. The commentator kept suggesting the Giants find ways to specifically exploit him.

Keep pretending he isn't an issue but doesn't change the fact he is one.

Emotional exaggeration.

There have been threads here in the past laughing about Booger McFarland as an announcer.

Safeties and Fans
  • With enough snaps played, Cowboys fans will hate one of the Safeties unless both are All-Pro.
  • It's similar with other teams and their fan-base.
  • Fans see players in the camera frame after a big play and blame those players.
  • Once fans have seen the same player in the frame after a few big plays, then that player is going to become a hated player.
  • By definition of the position, a Safety is most often going to be in the camera frame after a big play.
  • Fans will hate the player even if he made a great play coming from the far side of the field to save a TD because he was involved with the big play allowed.

All I know is that when Heath went out, the defense barely skipped a beat. Thompson is a physically limited S and yet the play did not drop off.

He's a dime a dozen starter in this league. He's not irreplaceable. He could be upgraded for sure. He's arguably the weakest starter on defense.

I am not sure why this bothers some people.

There have been threads here laughing at Joe Buck. Yet, FOX decides to pay him millions of dollars every year, as does ESPN with McFarland. Your dislike of McFarland does not make his highly-paid opinion any less correct. He could be wrong (I don't think he is) but his opinion is just as valid, if not more valid, than yours.

Weird opinion and not really a fact or valid point. Cowboys fans hate on or exaggerate all types of players and positions. Most of us are just sick of the decade of sub-par safety play.
Fans see players in the camera frame after a big play and blame those players.
Fans also see the Cowboys trying to trade for an impact player at his position.

There's some truth to this but is also the case with corners and left tackles. The average fan only sees or hears their names when they are beaten badly or commit a penalty. None of this explains the countless stats that have been provided that show Heath is not playing at an acceptable level. The very team you rush to apologize and make excuses for has actively tried to replace him more than once now.

I get it, you like stats, and you like defending the Cowboys. Your objectivity is an issue though and it makes it really hard to consider your data or takes as anything other than cheerleading for the Front Office. I'm sure you can say my criticism has the same effect with my takes. The difference is that I don't pretend I'm better than anyone.

I already admitted I was in the wrong, like I always do if I’m in the wrong. But I’ll bite back and if I’m right.

Don’t see Heath get hurt or him being reportedly hurt. So see a tweet saying “Heath not on field, probably benched’

One small miscommunication and everyone looses their minds...
They showed him slow to get up after a ST tackle, then showed him being escorted to the locker room shortly thereafter.

The same commentator who said the Gallup TD was "all Dak"?

Someone has to be the "worst" starter, but that doesn't mean he's horrible. He makes some good plays, even if he isn't a shut down DB. Yes, he could be upgraded, but for people to be certain that a player we haven't seen much of must be vastly better just gets old.

I've said many times that I would like to see an upgrade to Heath.

I'm not defending the front office. I'm just making fun of Heath haters because they don't even study the game footage to have any clue of what actually happens. They Cowboys have had many Safeties that were way worse than Heath.

I said several times this off-season that I was interested to see Thompson in training camp because I had studied his game footage when he started 16 games in 2017 with the Giants. He played FS but I thought his build and lack of range might make him a good option at SS; however, that didn't pan out in the preseason because tackling was a problem for him. He has the instincts of a FS but lacks the range.

It is comical to attempt to use comments by McFarland as proof of anything. He didn't actually criticize Heath in the game but said he might be the weak link.

What stats have been provided? Missed tackles are not an official stat. Someone has to watch video and make guesses to come up with missed tackle stats.
