Who is Jemele Hill?

I see her ESPN email addy but I've never heard of her. I'll admit, I don't watch TV hardly at all anymore but I'm a little shocked I don't know who she is.

Can I also say that while Chapelle's Race Draft has it's moments, it's not that funny and it doesn't make brilliant use of anything? It's actually got its offensive moments, too, though the most offensive cracks are aimed at people rather than races in general.

And George Lopez hasn't said anything funny, ever.

She's a hack who spends most of her time writing for ESPN's "Page 2".

She clearly knows nothing about sports and incorporates pop culture and/or race into everything she writes.

Can someone explain to me the Grape Soda reference? I didnt really grasp the racial joke in the 2nd Harold and Kumar movie. I get the Fried Chicken, Watermelon, and Kool-aid references....just not the Grape Soda one.

BTW.....I must say, based on pure observation, whites and hispanics love some fried chicken just as much as black folk. Also, from mere first hand observation, hispanics seem to enjoy partaking in the consumption of the ole seeded red fruit moreso thank blacks. I'm San Antonio born and raised. I have grown up with blacks, hispanics, and whites. I cannot recall ever knowing a hispanic person who didn't eat watermelon. I have known several blacks and whites who didn't eat it though.

So in my own experiences, it seems that the watermelon joke would be best fit for the hispanic culture. But, that would ruin the joke now wouldn't it?

BTW, I am white and I absolutely hate all melons....but I love me some fried chicken, especially Church's

Me thinks Martellus would receive less backlash if he just started making white jokes. :laugh1:

I was eating turkey earlier with a ton of mayonnaise, then I had a bologna sandwich, with mayo, and I washed it all down with a nice cup of boxed wine.(mayo on the side)

I then watched NASCAR for 8 hours straight, there were a couple times I thought for sure they might not go around the track, but they did! Missed the grass and everything! I finally ended my day with a couple hours of street hockey.

Being white just isn't funny.

Perhaps the racial issue isn't with Martellus Bennett as much as it is with Jemele Hill and Jayson Whitlock. It was considered offensive to their generation and with reason, but that doesn't mean they should dwell on the past and try to force those racial divides on the generations that follow them.

Martellus Bennett is obviously aware of the racial stereotypes, but like a great many of his generation (across all races), he realizes just how ridiculous those stereotypes are. That the younger generation can laugh together at the ignorance of the ones that preceded them should be considered progress, so perhaps Jemele Hill and Whitlock can stop preaching this once to allow for it.

I understand Marty B is out there just having fun, being young, enjoying his millions.

But he hasn't done a single thing in this league yet outside of catching some garbage time TDs. All this attention is for a backup TE.

Look at Clinton Portis, you can be the biggest idiot in this entire league - and do the dumbest stuff, but as long as you produce it will be okay and fans/media/owership look past that stuff.

Marty B really needs to get a better PR person because its only a matter of time before he does something stupid, or something slips and he's in trouble.

I don't think what Marty did was controversial

but it wasn't groundbreaking stuff either, so on that account I agree with the writer here

it was just a young guy messing around with a digital camera like everyone else in America

btw, only Dallas homers think his video was funny

The "wuss"ification of America continues...

He is hit or miss with me. His blogs are funny, but his videos are kinda lame.

The truly ironic thing is that Jemele Hill was suspended from ESPN last year for saying that rooting for the Boston Celtics was "like saying Hitler was a victim. It's like hoping Gorbachev would get to the blinking red button before Reagan."

She followed up that crap with a racist article about why there are no White Halfbacks in the NFL.

Maybe Ms. Hill should practice what she preaches.

She is awful. Her and JFE are on the same plane.

Didn't she get in trouble last year for saying something tasteless about the Holocaust? IIRC, she was reprimanded and suspended, but she kept her job at ESPN.

If it was a white dude that said it he would have been canned.

I'm sick of the hypersensitivity about race. Does anyone think MartyB hates black people? Honestly.

The video wasn't funny, nor was it offensive. I just hope Martellus has been prepping for the season half as much as he's been blogging, tweeting, and YouTubing- he should be awesome.

Bottom line is Jerruh needs to set him down and talk to him. We do NOT need anything like this this year. All effort in all ways needs to be focused on the football field. Once camp starts he needs to STOP. he SHOULD NOT have time for any of this.

Too late, thus the $22,000 fine for using the Cowboys helmet while using slurs about blacks and gays. I know what you mean, though. If he doesn't watch out, he might say something that he can never live down, regardless of how harmless it is to you and me.

Some peole need to get a life....Marty B's skit was toally innocent fun. Some folks take themselves WAY too seriously.....like a certain always finger pointing DMN reporter we all know. Yeah you JJT.

I thought it was quite embarrassing, but he really just embarrassed himself and his family. It's like if a white person was making racial slurs and rather unfunny jokes. I wouldn't take it as an insult to myself or an embarrassment to myself because I wasn't acting like an ignorant moron.

The problem in a lot of this is that we tend to give these people attention for stuff like this and then they are more likely to keep doing it or somebody else who is looking for attention will follow in their footsteps.
