So, if you could build a franchise around one of the quarterbacks from the last two draft classes, which one would you choose? I asked five NFL personnel executives that question. Here are their answers.

Note: None of the executives I polled work for teams that these QBs play for.

Executive 1: Carson Wentz
"I love Wentz. He has everything you want: Size, arm strength, accuracy, poise and leadership. I'd probably put Prescott right behind him."

Executive 2: Wentz
"There are some good options here, but I'd go Wentz. He doesn't have much around him right now, but he's helping Philly win games. They don't have any legit receivers and they have some holes on the offensive line. He would be destroying the league if he had Prescott's supporting cast. Long term, I think both of those guys are going to be very successful."

Executive 3: Marcus Mariota
"I'd go with Mariota slightly over Wentz. Both guys have similar temperament and passing skills, but Mariota is a more dynamic athlete and brings a different element to his offense."

Executive 4: Wentz
"It's close, but I'd take Wentz over Mariota. Both guys have ideal makeup, intelligence and the 'it' factor. However, Wentz is just a bigger guy with more durability over the long term. I do love both guys a lot ... smart, tough and great leaders."

Executive 5: Mariota
"It's between Mariota and Wentz. I'll give the nod to Mariota. His mobility is something I worry about every time we play the Titans. He's a real challenge to defend."

Summary: That's 3 votes for Wentz and 2 for Mariota.

Conclusion: Statistically, Wentz hasn't been the most impressive of this group, but he gets a lot of support from these executives. He has all of the tools to be very successful and I believe he will eventually emerge as the best player in this group.

It's not like NFL execs are one of the most egotistical and prideful people in the world. The only reason those two are up there is because they don't want to admit they were wrong on Prescott and that were right ranking Mariota and Wentz above him.

Let's see where Dak ranks in the top 100 against those two in the off-season which is only voted on by the people that play with and against him.

Its ok everyone is entitled to their opinion. Wentz has played well and has many of the tools nfl scouts look for. To me I compare him a lot to Andy Dalton. Mariota and Winston will continue to develop and likely will be regarded as high end signal callers in the future. Both the Titans and Bucs are teams that will take big steps forward over the next couple years.

Dak has benefited from his supporting cast, but you cant discount what he has contributed to this team. I love his poise, his preperation, and leadership qualities which are traits of great nfl qbs. The other QBs may have stronger arms, but he has shown he has the talent to succeed and the pedigree to be a great QB.

But that's a team thing. Give him the slop at the skill positions in Philly and he's floundering. These execs know this.

Basically the more you know about football the more you favor Wentz.
Don't call out my football knowledge it just ignorant. I'm a Dallas guy all the way. Let's say for the sake of it its Joe Montana on the eagles I don't care. I'm for dak. I don't care who is better and all that man. All I care about is the cowboys. D-Ware is my all time guy I seen drafted, watched his entire career and spent thousands on jerseys and football cards. When he left dallas I could no longer be a fan. Sorry but I will always have a problem with talking up a guy like wentz when he is not a cowboy. But yeah whatever go cowboys.

Wentz isn't getting much help right now. He'll probably be really good in the future.

That said, time and time again I see execs judging ability rather than a guys ability to be a QB.

Yeah, you have to have NFL caliber tools to work with, but that's probably less than half the equation.

Jay Cutler and Matt Stafford are way more talented than Romo. Doesn't mean crap.

This would make sense if both teams had similar supporting casts.

But they don't, so this doesn't. Hence why the football guys prefer Wentz.

I don't know why we get incensed when NFL execs don't pick our guy. There's really not enough evidence to say who's going to be the best, so they are projecting. It makes sense that they would project either the player they had as the top QB in the draft this year or the one who has had more time to show what his career trajectory might look like.

I will be the first one to admit that I wanted Wentz and thought he would be great with the Cowboys but he is not. We have Dak and he is doing very well. I hope he continues to do well and brings many SBs to Dallas. We can't change what is done and must move forward with what we have; not what we don't have.

Rookie contract QBs I would put Carr at #1 right now, with Mariotta and Prescott in a dead heat for #2 with Winston behind them. Wentz needs to run an offense where he is asked to make more NFL throws before I rank him anywhere

I don't care. I wanted Wentz but he's an Eagle now so as far as I'm concerned "Wentz sucks."

That's a fallacy created by people with an agenda against him. It's complete nonsense. Jaws did the work. Wentz throws down field more than a lot of QBs. Including Carr, Brees and Stafford and he does so with complete crap at WR.
