Chiefs agreed to terms with WR Jeremy Maclin, formerly of the Eagles, on a five-year, $55 million contract with $22.5 million guaranteed.

The deal will become official when the Chiefs clear the necessary cap room to fit the contract onto their books. That's expected to involve the release of WR Dwayne Bowe. Maclin's $11 million annual average makes him the league's sixth-highest paid receiver. It's quite the price for a guy who was viewed more as a No. 2 than a true No. 1 before last season. His numbers are going to dip dramatically in Kansas City with popgun-armed, dink-and-dunk pro Alex Smith at quarterback.

Yeah and Dez is Twice the WR he is. Deserves twice the money.

Realistically though, just more money overall.

This is what happens when you have a team that goes the whole season without a WR getting a TD.

It boggles the mind that a Pro Team can go a whole season without getting a TD from a WR.

Even if you have a terrible third string QB and nobodies at WR you would expect to get a WR a TD here and there even if it is just once in a while.

Maclin's a solid receiver and his play last year warranted a nice contract especially coming off the injury. People wrote him off last offseason. He was a legit #1 option. Kansas City was desperate. No receiving TD's last year. Maclin should give them some. Maclin's stats weren't that far off from Dez's.

They had pretty similar numbers last year:

Maclin 85-1318 10Td's
Bryant 88-1320 16TD's

Obviously Dez better in red zone, but I like these $'sr for Maclin.

Another receiver with 1 good year under his belt got PAID.

Glad he's gone from Eagles and NFC East....

He wasn't a superstar, but did make some nice plays over the course of the season

Their receiving core wasn't very good though. Dwayne Bowe is not nearly as good as everyone thought or he simply fell off. One of the two. Factor it in that their best players are KNiles Davis, Jamaal Charles, Anthony Fasano and Kelce? It makes sense lol.

That's free agency. A guy has one great year and gets paid. That's the NFL. IMO, Maclin has more than 1 good year under his belt. He was a legit #2 behind Desean for many years. His stats would've been even better if Sanchez didn't forget he was on the team.

Actually you look at their career numbers and pretty similar, except for TD's.

Not a bad comp.

They aren't. Dez has 3 seasons in a row with 1200+ yards, and double digit TDs.

IMO, a receiver who gets around 1k yards is pretty average. Maclin only has 1 season above that.

We'll just agree to disagree. This doesn't fix anything cause they still have Alex Smith who basically killed Bowe's career.

But there are those so-called Cowboy fans--especially before last year--that would have preferred Alex Smith over Tony Romo.:lmao:

Actually their career numbers are pretty similar except for TD's, both 5 years in the league. Dez definitely better player, especially in red zone. But the difference is not huge, don't think these numbers help Dez as much as you may think.

Maclin 343-4,771 13.9 Avg 36 TDS
Bryant 381-5,424 14.2 Avg 56 TDS

Bowe killed his own career. Bowe was crap before Alex Smith got there.

1k yards a year is not average lol. I don't know where that is coming from. You rack up 1,000 yards as a receiver for 10 years and you're in elite company that only about 30 guys have been able to reach.

Maclin was also #2 receiver and sometimes the 3rd option behind McCoy and Desean. The first year he's a legit #1 and he racks up 1300 yards. With Mark Sanchez and Nick Foles....

If you put Bryant in that system in Philly, he might have set NFL receiving numbers. The Eagles threw the ball 150 times more than we did.

Bryant as the #1 in Philly? 100+ catches, 1500+ yards, possibly 20 TDs.
