I frequent extremeskins (Commanders forum) and there have been a couple threads with skins fans clamoring about how they're going to "take a piece of Dallas' great wall." They're all pretty excited about Parnell coming to DC.

Good for them, he'll very likely be an improvement over what they had last year. But not worth nearly what they're bound to overpay for him.

But let's be real here, Parnell is a good, but not great, tackle who is largely bolstered by the best guard in the NFL. He's not essential to our OLine. I say let them overpay.

Exactly right. The next in a long line of in division players that Washington will grossly overpay while chuckling to themselves at how they've improved themselves while weakening a division rival. A strategy that continues to work to perfection.

Its funny how the conventional wisdom on Parnell here has gone from "he can't play" to "we shouldn't match the big offers he gets in FA".

He's a perfect candidate to get over paid by the Commanders.

We've settled at RT for years. Neither Free or Parnell are good enough.

You can't have perfection everywhere.

I think both players are pretty average and i'll take average from our right tackle.

Parnell is the perfect example of an OK player that gets FA hype and could possibly get a team to overpay because he was on a unit that was the best in the NFL. Surround him with subpar talent and watch him falter. It happens all the time...

Parnell still struggles with fundamentals, a smart evaluator will see that in his tape. They will also see that on plays where he filled in as in extra TE he was horrible.

This makes zero sense but we'll see

He played all over the line in college, and lots of people thought he could be drafted as a tackle. When we picked him, several people speculated that he would spend a year at guard and then move to RT to take over for Free this year. I don't think it will happen that soon.

We moved Larry Allen all over the line during his career. I'm not saying that Martin is Allen, but it certainly isn't some outlandish scenario.

He's a good tackle with potential to be very good next year. Xwalker and I are the only ones I can remember openly clamoring for him but he was very good last year when he played. Young, physically dominant tackle. His only problems were blocking the wrong ppl at times and that should get better.

what would be interesting is if when the bell rings to start FA, if Parnell signs 1st with the Skins over Free. giving Callahan's track record with OL, I take his opinion over anyone in the Dallas organization. So if he has his choice between Free and Parnell and takes Parnell, that says a lot to me.

This.

Callahan is the top expert on the Cowboys OLinemen and he is a big proponent of Parnell.

I think it would speak toward health, age, and longevity more than anything else.

If you're looking to hand out a big-money, long-term free agent deal, I think Parnell more fits that role.

But if Dallas wants to maintain consistency while getting a replacement ready, Free makes more sense.

Parnell is the OL version of Pernell McPhee. A decent player in a backup capacity who's going to get a decent contract on the idea that he could be even better as a starter in another situation.

And, like McPhee, I expect him to disappoint as well.

This happens all the time in free agency.
