Jerry All But Confirming Eberflus Is Here For The Long Haul

He was able to greatly improve the defense during his time in Indianapolis.

I suppose we can just see how the defense looks with the new additions and then determine if our players were really that awful...

"I've errored over the last three years with the changing of defensive coordinators or defensive philosophies or the adjustments there. When I look back, if I see one thing that I had to do over again, I would've tried to not change out our coordinator every year over the last three years. Continuity, I know better."

MOAR!

He's right--switching the defense every year is bad. Especially because we draft specifically for those defenses and then end up with players like Mazi or Diggs that dont do well in other schemes.

That's why the GM should seek to hire coaches that fit the identity of the team. That way the players you draft for your defense can flourish regardless of the guy calling plays. But we dont have an identity, and Jerry simply hires people who can play ball with him.

What is the Dallas defensive identity?

Jerry doesn’t want to pay for fired coaches.

I’m not even sure what he’s talking about since our DC was Quinn for multiple years and they extended him. He couldn’t do anything about DQ leaving, because he got a HC position.

There are things called sunk costs, meaning the sooner you get rid of the dead weight, the better.

They don’t draft for scheme, they draft BPA.

And generally, first round picks should be the kind of player that is great at the position, irrespective of scheme.

you mean he's here until the end of his contract. Coaches get paid out in full if fired before their contract expires
He’s done a lot of damage.

Basically wrecked the season with that jacked up cover scheme.

Thanks Jerry.

They absolutely draft for scheme. And if not, for the coach they have on staff at the moment. Look at Liufau. 100% a Zimmer pick, who is completely useless under Eberflus. Or literally all of the corners they draft for Quinn.

The Colts D he took over for was awful in 2017 and 2016, so in that sense he did improve them. But in his time as DC in Indy, he was far closer to putting an average D on the field than a great one.

2018

PPG - 10th
YPG - 11th

2019

PPG - 18th
YPG - 16th

2020

PPG - 11th
YPG - 8th

2021

PPG - 9th
YPG - 16th

Well no more excuses for him with the trades and getting injured players back

Dallas drafts BPA, even though the ability to adapt to a scheme would fall under a criteria for BPA.. A good CB should be a good CB in any scheme, playing both zone and man.

and drafting a position is not the same think as drafting for scheme.

So he thinks he should have kept Nolan? Because no way Quinn was going to stay.

Explain how we got Taco over Watt then.
