Nice post. I see the same pattern with the hiring of Parcells. I believe that he was thinking about Vermeil, after having missed with Gailey & Campo.

I'm glad we did not end up with Moss or Vick. I do agree that the Galloway trade was too costly and a mistake. As for Payton I think Jones would have loved him to stay but you can't hold a guy back when something comes his way. As for Garrett right now we are dealing with speculation of him being named HC that may or may not be true if it is then all we can hope for is Garrett is ready to take on this challenge.

Good post Dooms, in retrospect it would have been good for BP to retire last year and keep Payton, but hindisght for me is 20/20.

Were going young and actually rebuilding the coaching staff instead of rebuilding the team and I like it.

And not getting a Michael Vick was a mistake? The very thought of Vick is the mistake.

Mortenson and virtually every NFL analyst I've read or heard the last few days says that they've talked to a lot of people who are high on Jason Garrett. He may be reaching for him a little early, but Parcells leaving has put him in a bit of a tough position. It's either a retread, an up and coming assistant, or a college coach.

I think I see the pattern! Here's a few more:

- Jerry did not get much plastic surgery in the 1990's, so he got a lot in the 2000's!
- Jerry did not get many bad draft picks in the early 90's, so he made up for that in the late 90's/ early 2000's!
- Jerry did not have enough "burnt" toast in his diet, so he drafted Roy Williams!

It all makes sense now!

wasnt he a player/coach when he was here as a quote player? he was well known to be one of the smartest players on the team. his teammates all liked him i cant recall anything neg about him. i hope he works out because at his age maybe the revolving door could stop for a while . 3 years and out for coaches is one of the biggest reasons we are where we are at today.

He has a plethora of consensus smart choices that backfired as well,:
1.) Drafting Antonio Bryant
2.)Hiring Bill Parcells, I don't think it was a bad move but it didn't live up to expectations.
3.) Switching to the 3-4, still yet to live up to expectations
4.) Paying big money for a kicker.
5.) Adding that last playmaker to the offense, TO hurt and less productive that anticipated.

Give Garrett a chance.

A lot of teams have been trying to snag him up for awhile including Mr. Sean Payton.

Here are some things he did right:
- He's ridiculously rich
- He's ridiculously rich enough to buy the Dallas Cowboys
- He brought in a coach (Jimmy) that turned around a really bad team with talent that was either old or bad and brought us three Superbowls
- He learned from being a dufus, swallowed his ego (wich must have been hard) and tried to bring in what had previously been one of the greatest coaches of all time to restore the franchise.

Don't be too hard on Jerry, he has made some mistakes, but, getting in the time machine, I can't remember anyone being upset with hiring Parcells, it was a masterstroke at the time.

Sean Payton is a HC right? Makes sense for a HC to go after an assistant.
