That we Cowboys fans were asking, in that press conference (no, this is NOT a TO thread)...

We were all wondering what in God's name he and Bill were doing on vacation at this point in free agency... we had all kinds of theories, but Jerry had a common-sense answer...

They expected free agency to start a coupla weeks earlier, but the league kept pushing the start date back... but he and Bill had already made vacation plans, and Jerry probably NEEDED a vacation after the CBA was finally agreed to, so knowing that with his jet, he and Bill could back to Dallas real quick if a need arose, and that negotiations could be handled by phone, fax and e-mails, they just decided to stick to their original plans...

Makes perfect sense to me... one mystery, cleared up...

I never knew what the big deal about Jerry and Bill being on vacation was all about. People are so impatient it's unbelievable. We still have a couple more things to do, but they can make decisions from anywhere in the world now a days. As long as Stephen Jones is at VR to negotiate, that's all I care about.

With cell phones, faxes, satellite hook ups, you don't have to be in Dallas to sign anyone.

Then again, if you're trying to get a player to sign with instead of one of the other 31 teams, the personal touch is often helpful...

Well, we have signed five players including the biggest shark in the ocean without Jerry and Bill being holed up in Dallas so the personal touch might be overrated.

Would you trade our package of signings for any other team's? I wouldn't.

I have a personal theory that Bill ORDERED Jerruh on vacation. Think about it--Jerruh loves to make big splashes. With the way the skins were throwing money around, you know JJ would have had to do something to top it. I think JJ & Bill had decided ahead of time who they were targeting in FA (including TO), had a plan, & then Bill sent Jerruh off so that he wouldn't deviate from the plan & spend unnecessary money. Realistically, if you think about it without emotion, we've made some solid signings for a reasonable amount of money (I'm leaving out TO--the jury's out on that one, but we all knew JJ was going to do it).

Heck makes perfect sense to me.

MEMO TO SELF: send Jerry on vacation during FA in 07.

Stephen Jones made the comment that most of the contract wranglings over the contract details were done over the telephone. Face to Face meetings are nice but not necessary. I'd say alot of deals are done from a bar, beach, computer (e-mail), etc. Vacation meant nothing to progress.

..is that Dallas knew more or less who they were getting all along and it was only a matter of waiting for it to workout.

I don't think the contract offers were going to change all that much so why be hanging around waiting for it..?

Also, I don't think Dallas is seeking the added scrutiny and media attention that teams like the Commanders are seeking. Other than the TO signing, which was going to be a rockin' event no matter what..

..Dallas is sort of wanting to fly under the radar as much as possible as they re-build the roster this off-season. Business as usual.

Let the other teams win in March.

I don't think Dallas is looking for that.

We'll see.

I believe that to be sure...the phone..fax..email..ect is an easy way to work on things after the basic groundwork has been laid. Yes, at first glance I thought why on earth would they be on vacation during the first week of FA?

However, after looking at what they have accomplished thus far who really cares. I guess since most of us fans are not privy to the details and are die- hard Cowboy junkies as usual we overreact. When they state they were going to be "aggressive" in FA and Mickey is stating we are ready to "pounce" that does contribute to our fandom mania. :lmao::lmao2::eek:

Silver he also set the record straight why AB was traded away. Too many dropped balls.:( It seems we have had a few young guys over the years that have potential but keep dropping balls time after time. I sure every team has a few of these also.
