Jerry being Jerry

They said the goal was to sign two difference makers on defense. So far they have signed two average starters and brought back a guy they should have let walk and become somebody else's problem in Sam Williams. I'm one of the biggest Jerry haters on the board and still haven't seen anything to change my mind.
You’re a Jerry Hater?

When it comes to Jerry, I’m Superfly TNT! I’m the Guns of the Navaronne!

And I cant remember a first day of FA like this. It’s not perfect and we started from the bottom because our cap situation was among the worst in the league, but this is progress.

Jane reported that Dean was offered more to come here. He chose Vegas

Over the last 9 years the Cowboys have spent the least amount of $ per player per season in the NFL ($3.5m) despite making the most revenue ($1.2b)and having the largest operating income ($630m) in the NFL. These are the facts and they are not disputable. Unfortunately a decent safety and a ln edge who’s never had double digit sacks in a season doesn’t move the needle. Jerry continues to be the worst GM in the league.
The worst? Have you heard of the Raiders and the Jets?

I consider Thompson a difference maker. He fits perfectly with what Parker wants to do. They need to get either a Mike linebacker or another edge now.

Gotta admit, this is a pretty strong post to support the OP.
Just sayin.

Which Raider or Jet GM had 30 years straight of not making a CCG appearance and STILL has the job?

Also, Raiders have been to Super Bowl in the 21st Century and the Jets have played in two CCG's and have won more playoff games in the 21st Century than Dallas.

You really ought to know what the hell you are talking about before you defend the indefensible.

LOL

Is there any other GM in any sport that went 30 years of failure without getting fired? If not, then Jerry is the worst GM ever in any sport.

We had the worst LB room
We had the worst safety room
We had the worst edge room
We had nearly the worst CB room

There’s a reason we were the worst defense in the league.

If people thought we were going to find the seven quality starters in one day with one of the worst cap situations in the entire league ….
Then maybe the owner shouldn’t gas the fan base up and talk about busting the budget.

Same old Dallas, same old Jerry Jones, same old story! Everyone knows how bad the Cowboys need linebackers and pass rushers. One mid pass, rusher, and almost getting Max, and almost getting Dean, and not making up their mind in time about Walker proves that nothing has changed. Thompson isn’t Dollar General, but he’s more like Ross or TJ Maxx.

Every year, it’s the same old dang story. Today proves Jerry is not willing to sign a check to win anything! If he can’t beat the Raiders at getting Dean, and can’t beat the ravens at getting Crosby he flat out doesn’t care about winning.

We are all the same foolish cowboy fans as we are every year.
Your observational abilities are clouded by the last 15 years of behavior by the Cowboys. Nothing about this year supports your observation

Old enough to watch him bring in Prime and get Hailey and brag about it. Old enough to remember how you win in this league. Old enough to remember when Jerry wanted something, he used to get it. Old enough to know he’s taken $$$$$$$$$$$$$ from our family for 31 years and never provided what his customers want most!
He’s taken nothing from your family. Your family has willingly given it in spite of him not providing what you most want.

I agree. Jerry promises much but delivers little. For the second straight year Jerry had talked about spending money in order to get another Super Bowl. Free agency has just started, but the only way to “bust the budget” at this point is to go all in on Hendrickson.

24 hours in and people complaining we haven’t spent the national budget on free agents right away lol
We’ve had a solid first day, far better than we normally would… and if we carry on like this we actually could put together a defence that’s competitive.

Ive been optimistic because of all the little things which were different than our normal operations.

Im happy with what we did on day one.

However, I am highly concerned were done going after any legitimate players.

The cost Devin Loyd was signed for and the fact we wouldn't make a move on him makes me sick. If we weren't willing to pay that contract to fill a gaping hole with the best FA on the market where does that leave us? If we are indeed done this free agency will be another "incomplete." I didn't expect every need, but we have to have at least one more, whether its lb, cb, or edge. Then I suppose we can take the remaining two in round one.

What would that look like?

The team is currently significantly over the cap. They need to restructure more players, and there are only a few left, to get back to compliance or make more room.

Thompson is the single biggest free agent contract the cowboys have done since Brandon Carr in 2012. Certainly more than Fowlers deal last year. It’s the biggest AAV contract in history, but at a certain point cap inflation makes comparisons hard.! Certainly Deion’s legendary deal was higher in regards to percentage of cap.

Last year the team spent $55m in 2025 cap room on free agency. That was for 16 players

So far this year they’ve spent $20m on two and that doesn’t include Gary.

“Busting the budget” is such an emotional term and means something different to everyone but for those who ignore the fact that a team like the Raiders entered free agency with $110m in free cap room while the Cowboys had zero, well there’s nothing that would satisfy them.

Lloyd would certainly have been a great signing, especially at that price…
Did the Cowboys make him an offer? Maybe they knew he wasn’t interested in coming here…
I’m still hoping that we get Styles in the draft, package out two first rounders and move up in exchange for a higher first rounder and high second round pick.

55 million on 16 players. Exactly.

How many of them are still here?

When Jerry says busting the budget he knows exactly what he is doing.

They have yet to sign a LB. Whats the plan? Another Kenneth Murray?

Lloyd was there, Edmunds was there....Safety while it was an issue wasnt the big issue. So while I love the Thompson deal, was it necessary to spend that much on a safety when the draft has tons? Or bring in a green dot LB that this team hasnt had since Sean Lee...Its not about busting the budget, we are changing to a 3-4 and currently have 4 LBs, Sanborn (yuck), Overshown (health?), Liufau, and James.

I am not saying they wont get help there, but FA LBs are all gone except for Chenal.

Jalen Thompson was the off season splash move.

So, when you say busting the budget you’re talking about specific choices, not the overall money, is that correct?

So you are advocating for big overspending on day 1 of FA?
I think it's a little more than that. If you notice, Jerry avoids an FA bidding war at all costs. Gary would have been released. We traded for him to avoid FA. Good for Green Bay, also good for the Cowboys because we probably don't get a player like that in the 4th. But it shows the Cowboys are not willing to do what it takes to get the best players. They avoid the bidding wars for players like Hendrickson, LLoyd, Fitzpatrick, Dean, and the like. It's a handicap.

What I am saying is I wish we had a GM that would just shut up and do his job.

This team had the worst defense in franchise history and they have trade for Gary and signed Thompson. After he claimed he was going to bust the budget.

You want to defend him go ahead. Enjoy that safety when there is scrubs playing LB
