Thought it was interesting that Buss made that statement earlier. Kobe is not untouchable, for the right price. Would even be open to trading him mid season if the right offer were made. I wonder what that offer might be?

Interesting.

I would hope he wasn't, but it is interesting their owner is making that known publicly.

Kobe is unhappy, he's been clammering off an on to be traded, they haven't reached the second round of the playoffs since Shaq was there, they play just well enough to make the playoffs and not go anywhere, so they don't get draft picks that will help them. They can't trade for anyone to help Kobe without gutting the team. What other options are there?

The only problem is, who would they trade for? They would ideally want a young star to market to fans and build a franchise around. I wouldn't think there are many in that bracket whose team would be willing to trade them.

Well, I think Chicago might be an early candidate as would Portland perhaps. Who knows. I mean, I don't even know what the interest might be but I too think it's interesting that Buss would make this announcment.

They can certainly do better than the package Minnesota received for Garnett. Kupchak isn't great, but at least the Lakers don't have Kevin McHale as their GM.

Philly seems set with Iguadola and crew, but Kobe would get to play in his hometown.

Chicago would be a good destination with all of that talent to deal. They really need an inside presence more than a SG, but the East is still weak enough that Kobe could do more with them than LeBron did last year with the Cavs.

I'm sure pretty much every team would want him but at what cost? Unless they trade a star they'd have to give up too many players to make the trade work.

If I were Buss, I'd dump him and wouldn't lose a minute of sleep over it. Get what you can and move on.

I just heard on ESPN that Kobe would want to play for the Mavericks or the Bulls........The players involved in the trade would be Jason Terry and Howard......I would do that in a heartbeat if I was Cuban.....

Actually, it was mentioned that both the Mavs and the Bulls were willing to give up young talnet and future picks. I'd be interested in an offer like that myself depending on personel and picks. I've also heard that the rumor between Phoenix and the Lakers trying to put a deal together pursists. I don't know about that one but I guess we'll see. Mavs Man, what do you hear from Dallas about this?

I haven't heard anything at all outside of rumor mills, and nothing in the local papers. Seems like before it was going to include Devin Harris and Josh Howard. I feel better giving up Jason Terry in place of Harris, and would definitely consider it. It would be a starting five of Harris-Kobe-George-Dirk-Damp/Diop with Stackhouse continuing as sixth man. Kobe-Dirk would do damage, but there would be no depth at PG and none of the other starters are known for scoring in double digits consistently. Kobe has the killer instinct, but I'm not sure this makes this team noticeably better (especially considering Kobe's considerable baggage.)

Edit: Also, just thinking, if the Mavs were going to make a drastic move it would seem to make more sense to go after KG than Kobe.

Garnett?

If your talking about Kevin Garnett, I don't see any way that trade would happen. Boston is not interested in trading Garnett. They believe that they can win the East with Garnett, Pierce and Allan and they might be right.

I meant before the Boston-Minnesota trade. The Mavs were definitely interested, but it would have taken both Harris and Howard and more. And if they were unwilling to deal that for KG, I'd be surprised for them to go very hard for Kobe.

I see. Well, I don't about you but I can't see anybody stoping Kobe and Dirk if they were on the same team. I mean, both are about as big a miss match as you can get at there respective positions. JMO

If they wait until they have to get rid of Kobe, and take 60 cents on the dollar... it could happen.

It will take more than Harris/Terry and Howard to equal Kobe money-wise in a trade.

Kobe makes almost $20 mil and to make the trade work Dallas would have to trade Harris, Terry and Howard.

Good point about the salaries. Maybe they could trade the phantom salaries of Shawn Bradley/Michael Finley that we're still paying.

And sorry, I'm not going to that link. I won't get any work done for the rest of the day. :laugh2:

Kobe said the only two teams he is interested in playing for is Dallas and Chicago...

ESPN said that Cuban has not made a serious offer as of yet...
