Yes we were 13 - 3. But as many of you know about my posts...I couldn't care less how we perform against bad teams. We are not 5-11 anymore, so how we do when we played good teams is where we are at...and when you look at are last 3 games against the division, the results are pretty clear. Also, the same things that plagued us all year came back to bite us tonight....and please stat geeks...spare me...I don't even know the rankings about what are obvious issues in my eyes....we are a heavily penalized team...we are a poor tackling team...we do not cover punts and kicks well...and we get next to nothing on punt returns. We continue to commit penalties and suck at returning the kicks/punts because our arrogance has led us to believe our offense can get us out of any jam. But our offense can't travel 90 yards when they feel like it. Especially for 16 weeks and the playoffs. It would be nice to have a short field to work with...it would be nice to not have to overcome penalties to keep drives alive. We can't keep missing tackles and giving up first downs by playing soft zone.
The bottom line is that the things we are terrible at needs to be the foundation from which good teams are built...but since those things don't make highlights or get you big contracts, I wonder if we do not have enough players interested in doing them. We need some guys who take pride in doing the little things. Somebody has to take pride in covering kicks and punts. Somebody needs to take pride in tackling. Take pride in having the requisite focus to alleviate penalties. But maybe we have too many guys who want to be the next TO so they don't do their special teams assignments well. Maybe we have guys that are embarassed to be on special teams because they were first round picks..so maybe their commitment is not 100%. Maybe we have too many guys that want to knock the guy out, so they don't wrap up.
As for Romo...here is what I will say. You are the QB of America's team now. So the "aw shucks I am just a regular guy bit has got to go. Like it or hate it you have to avoid the appearance of evile/distraction...and Jerry gave you 70M because he thinks you can handle it..so having your girl at the game in your jersey is high schoolish. Did it lose us the game? No. But it created storylines that had NOTHING to do with football. These kinds of things have to stop. These kinds of things have let role players like Crayton think he is a celebrity and go on all of these radio shows and tv shows acting like he is mike irvin. These kinds of things are why our offensive coaches are interviewing for head coaching jobs before we even won anything. The celebrity thing in Dallas is always going to be there...but at least it used to wait until we won. We started pimping ourselves over a 13 - 3 record...and it was just dumb. I already KNOW Wade can't coach us out of this mentality, but you cannot fire him after going 13 -3. So hopefully someone will arrive (Asante Samuel) to get this team to perform better on the field, while we wait for the right coach to get this team over the hump. We could really use Jimmy Johnson to finish this things off..but he probably does not want the stress.
