That's where I'm at with Taco.

He's going to be a bit of a development player but he'll be fine.

A year of NFL weight training will do wonders for him I think.

Agreed, DE is a position that takes time/reps. Most of these guys in college get buy with their superior athleticism and need to learn the tricks of the trade and get stronger,

Did he say more zone? I caught a portion of it and he was talking about "flexibility" of the DBs.

Admittedly I only caught part of the conversation.

He said that the CBs that were drafted fit better in the zone defense that Marinelli would like to play; would allow them to break on the ball and get more turnovers (versus turn their back in man coverage and run).

I was one who argued we weren't necessarily going to predominantly play zone. Guess I was wrong.

Ive had this debate with zoners who continue to insist that Marinelli does not want to play a Tampa-2 zone. When asked about the new CBs, Jerry stated that they like the new CBs, they will help Marinelli play zone defense and break on the ball to get turnovers. What I've been saying for years... Mo Clai, Carr, Church, Wilcox were square pegs in round holes, and Marinelli played man because he had to, not because he wanted to.

Yep, read that as well. This was brought up about 3 years ago. That the Cowboys were devoid of an actual plan. Aikman also commented on that as well. In the last 3 years I have been seeing good signs of that changing for the better. Continuity certainly has been a part of that. At least on the coordinator level. Pretty sad though to think that its taken this long.

Get ready for WRs and TEs running free all over the field.

I still think we'll mix it up a lot. And I think we'll see more man, early on. But,yeah, Jerry was explicit about it in the interview.

I don't like it we have been a better in tight man to man, then in the playoffs a QB like Rodgers will eat a zone up if you don't have a great pass rush.
Yeah seemed like it.
But it will be more zone now.
He said these were zone dbs.

We were better in tight man to man because Carr and Claiborne sucked at playing zone. Marinelli ditched zone after taking over for Kiffin because they couldn't play it.

Funny, we've been far better in tight man.
Yes we have, To play zone you better have a top notch pass rush ? Eli, Rogers, Ryan VS our shady pass rush and were playing Zone. Who the he** plays zone in today game, It's about as outdated as the Tampa 2 !!! Oh wait

Zone without a pass rush equals ?

They have decided that playing zone for the turnover is better then letting them play between the 20's and keeping them to a field goal. I would be all for it if we had a pass rush, but without one the better QB's in the playoffs will hurt us if we are playing zone.

I think the formula that works for this team, is control the clock with the running game, let Dak take his shots but have a D that that controls the points on the board FG's not TD's.

Going zone with no pass rush at this point is a high risk/ high reward option. Could work most weeks if you have D play makers, but in the playoffs you run into a good QB with a good OL and you are in trouble.

I bet we allow more yards passing than anybody...in the last 10 years.. Soft zone defenses are so 1980's....they don't work. All it does is allow teams to pick you apart.
