+1. Maybe Jerry is losing it. He seems to be doing this more and more often. I think his ********** stuff last year was more embarrassing.

This:
Truly I think there is a little dementia setting in with JJ. I have delt with people like this before and some of the characteristics are there. He's unfortunately stumbling on subject matter that he could handle much better 10 to 15 years ago.
Sad part is that Stephen (out of respect) will probably let his father run the organization until it's so apparently bad that he'll have to step in. Seriously I'm starting to feel sorry for JJ as he's become an easy target and joke with the media.

So... If the offense sputters, who does Jerry blame?

Jason Garrett. Since Jones is married to Romo for the next few years no matter what happens, Garrett will be taking the blame, whether it's his fault or not. Garrett will likely go down in flames this year.

So then Jones can bring in another puppet next year and once again try to sell the Cowboys as a whole new product.

So are you calling on a sub 500 season?

I agree, this was not a wise move. I get telling Romo that he needs to step up and win. That's all fine and I don't think anybody but the most egregious Romo Fan Boy would object to that but that could have been done in a more private setting. However, making public statements like this only server to create more pressure on Romo and provide the Sports Media with a convenient storyline anytime anything goes wrong. Now, anytime there's any kind of a hint of a story or even any opportunity to create a story, the Media will use this statement to do it. Every player on this team will have to defend Romo at every second of every day. You've basically compared him to Staubach and Payton Manning, the most beloved Cowboy ever and the most popular player in the last 20 years in the NFL. Nice job.

It's almost like we want Romo to fail.

I don't know about sub .500 but I do think this will be a very tough year to make the playoffs. And, I do think Garrett's future is probably tied to making the playoffs.

Jerry Jones: In increasing Tony Romo's input, Cowboys taking page from Roger Staubach era

Jerry Jones: Tony Romo is ‘qualified’ to help shape game plans
Jones: I want to use everything in Tony Romo's computer
Jason Garrett: Romo has always been involved and that will continue
Tony Romo’s newfound influence in the Cowboys offense seems to be growing by the day.
It started with team owner Jerry Jones comparing the time commitment the Cowboys expect of Romo with that of Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. Now, Jones is invoking the name of one of most legendary players in franchise history: Roger Staubach.
“[Romo] has a unique grasp of offensive concepts. The people who are around him the most, his coaches, tell me he’s never had a bad idea. So if you think about it, where he is right now, he’s 10 years older than most of the players out on that field,” Jones said during an interview on Sirius XM’s Late Hits with Gil Brandt Alex Marvez. “Now, we think his skill level is very much right where we would hope it would be and will be for several years to come. But what we want to use more than we ever have is the kind of thing … that [Roger] Staubach contributed on the field – really, input into designing a plan that helps beat that opponent.”
Gil Brandt, one of the show’s co-hosts and a scouting director under former Cowboys coach Tom Landry, relayed some details of Staubach’s relationship with his old head coach. Staubach, Brandt said, was “in Tom’s ear as early as Tuesday” each week, and the pair had a regular Thursday night meeting at Landry’s house to go over the parts of the game plan that Staubach did and didn’t like.
Jones didn't specify if he wanted Romo to have that much say in the Cowboys’ game plan each week, but he seems keen on giving the quarterback a chance to put his signature on the offense.
“Well, you think about a guy that’s been behind the center … they’ve seen it and they know what it looks like when it’s coming at them. They know how loud it is out there,” Jones said. “And plus, we all know that when it’s your idea and you’ve got to execute and you’ve had input into the idea – or for that matter, it’s your idea – it just seems to work better. We all do better when we’ve got a little bit of our own proprietary input into it.”

The reality is, the offense has already sputtered and Jason Garrett had his chance. Now, he's being demoted, Callahan will probably have a more vocal role and Romo will finally not have his talents wasted. Hopefully, the trend of listening to the QB over the "Red-Headed Genius" continues...

Jason Garrett hasn't been taking the blame his whole tenure here, and now he's finally getting exposed for what he is.
