“It’s a great thing for us that Leary will be back for the first game and I’m sure that he will be,’’ Jones said. “I’m confident that he will be and it has everything to do with his attitude.

“I know how hard he worked to get back when he came to camp with a calf strain. If anyone would be ready to play under the circumstances, he’ll be ready to play.’’

I'm thinking he's telling Waters that their offer is their offer, and this doesn't change that.

I still say that Waters will sign after they return to Texas for a few days of practice and be out there opening night.

Kind of agree, the tone about Waters and state of the OL seems to have changed a bit based on some of the comments/reports coming from Oxnard. Prior to yesterday I thought it was a slam dunk Waters was coming next week, now not so sure at all. Waters must be asking for a boat load of $'s, may change based on a really good/bad performance by Arkin/Bernadeau this Saturday.

Let's hope neither party over play their hands, certainly don't want him at all costs.

I guess we will see.

So, recovering from knee surgery on the short end of the scale is all about "attitude"? Does that fix cancer too? What if the medical people say he can't opening night? Does that mean he has a bad attitude?

Sometimes it does. Are you arguing that there isn't a mind-body connection and that a happy disposition doesn't help the healing process?

“It’s not that we didn’t have a feel that we had interest in him or with Brandon (Moore). We did.’’

So, that ought to clear everything up nicely. You can tell from the rest of the context of these quotes that he's trying to say that Leary's situation doesn't factor into the Waters decision, one way or another. I imagine the team's made it's offer, and that Waters has already agreed and is just waiting for the end of camp, or that the offer wasn't high enough, and we're rolling with what we've got. Personally, I think it's Livings to IR and Waters has already agreed to a one-year deal at a number higher than we offered Brandon Moore.

I'm shifting gears to pretending to be intrigued by Dennis Godfrey now. Actually, I'm not really pretending. He's moved into the lineup behind Arkin and the scouts are reportedly pretty high on the guy. Might be a player we stash and develop for a year the way we did with Leary last season.

I'm intrigued about him too.

Thanks for the link!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Jabari Fletcher was the next DL on their list and that the scouts came across Godfrey when they were looking at Fletcher's Sabercats film. They seem excited about him in an under-the-radar sort of way. Definitely going to be watching for him on Sat to see how he looks.

If he has Leary's potential, then maybe you keep him on the 53 man roster and get him second team reps and hurry his development along. He might be a serviceable player by the end of the regular season if someone goes down.

Yeah, I was surprised that they were able to stash Leary when they did last year, too. It's risky, in an OL-driven league. I suppose they'll take a good look at him and see. There should be a 10th roster spot open for the OL if he looks promising.

How many times have we heard Jerry say that and it was a lot worse? Might as well put him on IR

Wasn't one of the knocks on Leary being undrafted was the need for micro-fracture surgery at some point in his life? Or something like that?

Yes, but not on the knee that is currently injured.

I feel a lot better about this now knowing that Dr. Jones has reviewed the x-ray.

I am pretty sure Jerry said what he said because of what the doctors and trainers have told him along with Learys work ethic. When it comes to a players health and surgery I highly doubt that Jerry is going to just say it to say. Sorry but but you can hate on Jerry all you want but he has never done anything like what Washington did in the playoffs with RGKnee. So I will give Jerry the benefit of the doubt and say he is just being positive based on all the info he has been given.
