Wow you guys are brutal tonight.

Bad news fellas - we are very very very unlikely to cut Barber.

Well come on. You have to play a guy because he makes alot of money, even though he's actually hurting the team?

Addition by subtraction but cutting Barber

So now Barber is hurting the team. Gotcha.

Jerry is saying that he's considering it, not that Felix is automatically the starter.

Reading is critical.

:laugh2: I was wondering when someone was going to point that out.

It's about time.

Give him at least 12-15 carries a game.

Spread the other 12-15 between Choice and Barber. It really isn't that hard of a concept Jason Garrett.
That would mean we are running the ball 30 times a game...not going to happen with Redball calling the plays.

F. Jones should get 15 to 20 carries, T. Choice should get 8 to 10 and MBIII should get 5 to 7 per game.
Switch Choice and MBIII and your close. Especially since Barbers should come late.

I'm thinking I should pipe in on every post with actually nothing to say to bump my number of post like so many on this board.

i'd actually be happy to see all three backs get 10-12 carries per game. that way, they'd all stay fresh, they'd all stay hungry, and the defense would never be able to adjust to any one guy. that would be a real "three-headed monster".

of course, if one guy is hot, you let him keep going.

Why is Jerry Jones talking to anyone about this? Shouldn't it be a coach?

Oh, I forgot. Because we have 2 co-head coaches, both of whom must defer to him in all matters, even when it comes to who is a starter.

Felix Jones-RB- Cowboys Mar. 23 - 8:46 pm et

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed that the team has given thought to having Felix Jones replace Marion Barber as the starting running back.

Jones did say that there are certain "advantages" to having Barber start, but he made it clear that Jones will get a chance to win the job. ESPN's NFC East blogger Matt Mosley, reading the tea leaves, believes there's a 95 percent chance the Cowboys will install Jones as the starter by Week 1. At the very least, there's going to be an open competition in training camp and preseason action.

The headline is completely misleading and incorrect and even the usually accurate Bob S missed what the blurb REALLY said.

Jerry didn't say that HE was considering it but that THE TEAM has "given thought" to it. THE TEAM has probably "given thought" to any number of changes that may never happen.

Jerry said that Felix would get a chance to win the job, not that he would be handed it outright or that HE had already made the decision to start him.

ESPN's Matt Mosely is the one who is making it sound like it is a done deal, when in fact it isn't, nor should it be at this point. We have yet to go through the draft or training camp and a lot can happen between now and the start of the season so EVERYTHING is speculation at this point.

What's truly sad is that nearly every post in this thread was based on an incorrect reading of what the blurb actually says. Pitiful people.

Man I hate the media!!!

We averaged almost 28 a game last year. If the OL is more consistent in their run blocking, we absolutely could average 30-32 rushes per games.

I re-watched several games the last couple of weeks, notably the Philadelphia games, the New Orleans game, even the Kansas City game. What was notable was Barber was the least effective of the three running backs. He has picked up a stutter step, more like a skip when he breaks through the line, and it rarely fooled anybody. Years past, he simply lowered his head and broke tackles.

My fear is the Cowboys trade Choice for a draft choice, and Barber is left as the starter with Felix picking up his slack, albeit 40 % of the snaps.

Competition for a starting job is never a bad thing. At the very least, we will see a very spirited Marian Barber in training camp. If it is really open, Matt isn't going too far out on a limb in predicting Feli to be the starter in week 1.

I like the fact Jones said Felix "will get a chance to win the job" Assuming that Jones does in fact win the job I would expect to see Barber in the short yardage package as well as being part of the rotation. As I have said in the past I could care less who is starting I'm only concerned what each man does when they are in the game.
