I just feel like there were cascading mistakes.

There's no issue if Pollard understands there is a second play and they run the clock down, squeeze one more play in before calling the time out. In that situation, the last play isn't limited to a quick out, it can be anything. Pollard not knowing he's in for a second play is an indictment on his football IQ and the coaches communication.

Mistakes happen, but there are a few too many related to substitutions, clock management and special teams calls IMO. These need to be ironed out.

Yeah, I've already seen this. Still say it wasn't the best way to handle the situation. But maybe it wasn't the worst. He's on probation. Needs to earn his way off my list. :D

    That is fair.

And please, don't think I was trying to imply that is "how they drew it up" or "that's how they should have drew it up" ... But given a curve when they were expecting a fastball, I think they hit a homerun.

    That's all.

    This is shoddy logic. Ideally:

    1. At 33 seconds Pollard run ends
    2. You hurry up to the LOS and are ready at 25 seconds
    3. You wait!
    4. You don't run the play at 25 seconds, you run it so that this is the last play with just enough time to call the time out

Maybe the Chargers get lucky and manage to keep a few seconds on the clock. But that's gonna get eaten by a field goal and squib kick. Herbert shouldn't see the field again. And with how Martin was playing I'd probably just have been running it right behind him.

I pretty sure that he said that the Cowboys DID NOT pull off the ideal situation. But given what happened, they hardly "butchered it".

Feel free to point that out to him on his channel.

I would say sounds good and let's move on but McCarthy didn't manage the clock well in the loss to Tampa either.

They were going to kick it. Safe play. What's the use in having a good kicker if you don't believe in him?
How some ever, If he had missed, would they have kept Hajrullahu on the PS?

that wasn't my take away from tampa.
not enough scoring in the red zone.
not making enough stops on defense.
    those were mine.

that’s nothing but an excuse. Admit it was poor clock management. Go ahead you can do it.

This is what a blind homer does.

Missing a free play is butchering it. He implied that the Chargers would have opportunity to score, this is not the case (assuming they manage the clock correctly)

Butchering it, IMO at least, is giving the ball back to the Chargers at the end of the game with multiple time outs.

If you are saying we should have lined up again, ran another play WHILE letting the clock run down to < 8 seconds before snapping the ball, THEN calling a Time Out. I'm right there with ya. That is the ideal situation.

But if you are saying we should have ran another play at all cost, to include calling our last timeout BEFORE running the 3rd down play, then I completely disagree.

So while the Cowboys did not get there like they "should have", they ended up in the only "right situation" at the end of a tied game. Kicking the FG as time expired.

    it
a 56 yarder is not a given . having around 30 seconds to get 7-15 yards gives the team a better chance.
But regardless of the field goal happening or not. the way MM explained his lack of knowledge of the clock and the hesitation is alarming as it looks like he got busted and tried to explain it away.
Even stephen on the radio said he was a bit surprised they did not take another snap,

Yea, I’m less impressed with McCarthy. He even sounds like a big dummy.

I would not have a big problem saying letting it run down and kicking the 56 yarder worked out fine and was a conservative plan but the problem is....

That was not their plan. They did not have one. I seriously think they thought Pollard would take it outside and run it out of bounds and when that did not happen they were confused on what to do and did nothing. Almost ran a play with 6 seconds that could have run out the clock.

    It was piss poor!

Not what they said. Moore did say he had second thoughts on the run play to Pollard in his press conference but I don't think they lacked a plan I think the issue with personnel grouping on the field and issue with the clock lead to some confusion and frankly in a situation like that I would just as soon run the clock down and take my chance with the FG instead of shooting ourselves in the foot and doing something to take us out of FG range all together.

And like I said, I could live with that, but they were about to run a play. They were not running the clock down on purpose!

Exactly , MM got busted out of sync and probably totally relying on kellen on the offense , which is not a bad thing as Kellen is a capable OC . The issue here is now aloof MM looks and lacking input. . It solidified the belief he is a 5 million a year head trainer and bus driver and not a deeply involved coach of the most expensive sports franchise in the world .
