It doesn't get any more pathetic than that statement. I have no faith in the future of this team whatsoever.

NONE.

Yea it's hard to take a Jerry serious when he makes these types of statements.

Al Davis was a coach and scout prior to becoming the Raiders owner. He was also fairly brilliant running the Raiders for about 25 -30 years. He lost it the last decade or so, but was great enough prior to that to be enshrined in Canton.

He forgot more about football than Jerry will ever know.

You guys need to pay attention to what Jerry really said here...

He wasn't endorsing Kiffin for next season. He was saying, at this point in time, there is no one he'd rather have to get this thing fixed over the next 2-3 weeks to get them into the playoffs. He then goes on to qualify that by saying, "First of all, he knows what we’re doing better than anyone, and if there are adjustments to be made, he’s the right man for the job right now.” --and he's probably right. It's too late to have someone come in here and fix this defense in these final few weeks of the season, which is the explicit time-frame Jerry frames his comments in:“To fix what we’re doing, there’s nobody I’d rather have than him and Rod Marinelli, and where we are today to get this fixed over the next week, two weeks, three weeks,” Jones said.

Anyone who thinks Jerry is endorsing the idea Kiffin will be back next year is flat wrong. Jerry is just toeing the company line, offering his public support (because what a media storm it would be if he did anything else), and showing as much confidence as he can --which is the most empowering thing he can do at this point. But don't presume that Jones is happy with these results and that an axe won't fall in the off-season on somebody's neck. Especially if Jerry is serious about keeping Garrett, Kiffin is absolutely gonna be that guy...

I agree

Jerry is giving Kiffen a warning. Improve the defense over the next three games. He did not say anything about next year.

Yep. Pretty clearly. And being publicly nice to a veteran coach who's earned his stripes. Monte is going to retire from coaching at the end of the year, it sounds like to me.

Any idea what his blood alcohol content was at the time?

The damage that Larry Lacewell did to this franchise with his influence on Jerry....

I know the buck stops with Jerry, so he is ultimately responsible.

Currently NFL teams are using generation 4 of Tampa 2 defense to adapt to current NFL offenses. So instead of hiring someone who is running this type of defense like Seattle DC, Jerry hires Kiffin who is still running original Tampa 2.

Its like saying human beings evaolved from Monkeys, so instead of uring a human being to a job,- give it to a Monkey to do it because we came from Monkeys (FYI - may be a bad example as I have utmost respect for Kiffin for what he did in Tampa all those years back but his original defense is evolved to 3-4 versions over the period of time)

Same this with Garrentts offenes, it has remants of old systems that are outdated from 90's offenses - not current generation. these ar enot the new NE or Saints offenses. Garrent took as far as he could and this is his ceiling

I honestly believe most of our D's problem is the coaching. The front 4 needs a lot of work but the back end is not that bad. I'm tired of getting rid of players because the coaching sucks.............

What team are you commenting about? Dallas?

By having zero pass rush, we're making backup QBs look like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. Like someone (sorry, don't remember who) said in the game thread, McCown looked like he was at practice wearing a red shirt. Our DBs didn't really have much of a chance.

The problem with this team surely has some link to coaching. But the idea of building a defense from the defensive back position is ridiculous.

No pass rush, no pass defense.

The back end is not bad? The front four need work?

The front four needs talent more than work.

The back end has given up.

So I ask again, what games have you been watching?

My concern is that the complaints on the board last year were almost verbatim about Mr. Ryan, now he's gone to the Saints and made chicken soup out of chicken crap. Does the same thing happen if we jettison Kiffin at the end of the year? Does he not deserve a 2-3 year span and healthy players to see what he can actually do? Can any D coordinator change an entire D scheme in a year and make a difference? My thought is that Jerry sees the mistake he made getting rid of Ryan and doesn't want to repeat the same mistake 2 years in a row. I honestly don't think you can play musical defensive coordinators every year and expect a lot of change, there needs to be some stability, look what happened with Alex Smith when he finally got some stability with an offensive coordinator.
