Whenever the Cowboys' season ends - either Sunday or Feb. 8 after Super Bowl XLIV in Miami - owner and general manager Jerry Jones will sit down with coach Wade Phillips within a day or two to resolve Phillips' 2010 status.
Jones holds the option on the fourth year of the deal Phillips signed in 2007 and has publicly supported the coach all season and especially down the stretch, adding that he does not want to make a coaching change.
"It's not something I wanted to talk about here a month ago when the issue was more about, well, changing, that was kind of the tenor where the energy was," Jones said. "I didn't want to talk about it then and I don't want to talk about it now. What I have said is to give you insight into the thinking that's going on, but as I've mentioned and it's not being trite, but it's not as though you had technical work to do here. Something is in place."
Phillips is 33-15 in three seasons and is looking to win his first playoff game with the Cowboys - or anywhere - in Saturday's wild-card matchup against Philadelphia.
