Free agency: releases Terrell Owens

Draft: selects Manuel Johnson in the seventh round

Jones believes his team can win football games with Roy Williams, Patrick Crayton, Miles Austin, Sam Hurd, Isaiah Stanback, Travis Wilson and Johnson. The possibility exists that he'll bring in undrafted free agents and maybe, just maybe, make a late free agency move for a veteran receiver--but for the most part, this is it. He thinks that the Dallas Cowboys can compete for a championship with this receiving crew and so do I.

Go Cowboys.

PS: Who's surprised? I'm not.

I'll take a lunch pail WR corps with the stable of RBs, the stable of TEs and the OL Dallas has. They can win with that as long as Romo can keep the turnovers down.

I'm ok with our receivers. The only guys I super wanted in this draft anyway were Nicks, Robiskie, or Harvin and I knew we wouldnt have a shot at Harvin or Nicks (Harvin being off our boards killed that too) so I'm ok with not reaching on anyone else.

I actually think Johnson will prove to be very under-rated. I watched him several times while at OU and he always seemed to be a pretty solid option.

Of course I'd have liked to have had Crabtree or Maclin as well but I knew we has zero shot at them so they weren't wants for me anyway. :)

The Williams pick is actually growing on me as well, the more I read on him, so I'm probably going to like him as well.

I think we are depending on Michael Irvin's tv show to bring us another wideout...heh heh.

It all depends on Roy fulfilling expectations, you can win with second tier talent as your second receiver.

Dallas went 13-3 with Crayton tandemed with Owens.

Won three Super Bowls with the likes off Alvin Harper and Kevin Williams paired with Michael Irvin.

It all comes down to having one bonified possession receiver then you can mix and match and package your number two and three with a variety of guys, just so long as they're not named Corey Fleming or Billy Davis.

A balanced offense that has three starting caliber runningbacks, a pro bowl qb, a big o line, three talented tightends and servicable receivers is actually more like a vintage Bill Parcells team than the team was like when Bill Parcells was coaching it.

The only offense that resembles Dallas' depth so closely is New England's.
And they are not super stars outside of Brady, the aging Randy Moss and Mulroney.

NO WR makes it in the NFL until you put him on the field and play him.

Miles Austin could be that guy at #2. Sam Hurd could be that guy.

But if you never put them out there to find out, if you keep bringing in Free Agents, at some point you've wasted all your time with them. At worst, we have a serviceable WR corps, but it might be more. It's time to find out and play them.

I said at the beginning of the draft that I didn't want us to pickup a WR at all.

We've got enough young wrs that we need to find out about, and we need to do it this year. You can make the argument that the only WR on the roster that we really know what we're going to get is Crayton.

Adding another mystery WR to the mix only clouds that evaluation process further. We need to play our young wideouts this year and figure out what we have.

If we truly become a rushing dominant team, that will lessen the need for elite WR's.

And it will make things easier for our wideouts and quarterback.

Defenses ended up playing us only concerned about disrupting our passing game.

Make them honor the run.

There were WR's in from rounds 3-5 that we should've taken a shot on. It's time for guys like hurd and stanback to be put on notice. I can count on one hand the number of plays hurd has made for us and stanback has the potential label on him. If were turning over the roster on the defensive side of the ball a few members of this offense need to start feeling the heat as well.

I wanted a WR but resolved myself right before the draft that it probably wasn't going to happen. If you count Witten and Bennett as part of our receiving corps (which one should), we have more than servicable recievers. Need Austin to step up big.

I don't see any team becoming truly dominant running the ball as we were in the 90s. But I believe we will run the ball very well for today's offenses. I sure hope so.
