We all saw it. Third and a few, late in the game, Weeden scrambles right, there's open field a chance to get to the sticks and keep limited hope alive. And Weeden decides to take a comfy slide. This, after a long day of dump offs, hook patterns, and quick slants.

Weeden simply doesn't have the gonads to play in the NFL. That was on full display.

But not if you ask Jerry. Nope, our newly-hipped owner just gushed on and on at how splendidly he thought Weeden and his prettiest-pass-Jerry-has-ever-seen performed yesterday. (Jimmy had fun bringing that up to Troy earlier, and Troy was rightly miffed that Jerry would say such a thing.)

Jerry saw sunshine and rainbows. We saw 0-7 as a suddenly real possibility.

Weeden very well may have done mostly what he was told to by coaches all day. Perhaps next week he'll air it out more, we'll see. I'll leave a smidge of room for first-game jitters and rust, and hope he'll be more relaxed in New Orleans.

But the LAST thing I thought after that game was about how well Weeden played. Stats are for non-thinkers, and yesterday was a prime example; Weeden dumped the ball down over and over and running backs RAN for his passing yards. That looks good on paper, but doesn't speak to the reality of what Weeden did.

Atlanta rightly adjusted at halftime and ganged up on the run, daring Weeden to go downfield. He simply doesn't feel comfortable standing in a pocket, and the dump-downs continued. It was up to him to back the Falcons off, and he couldn't.

An ugly ZERO points in the second half, yet Jerry remained giddy over his golden-armed backup QB.

I don't know that Cassel is any better, but I know he couldn't play any more scared. I suppose Weeden has to play this weekend so Cassel can keep sponging the playbook, but I'm ready for a change asap, because you can't play in this league without your testicles. Especially when you have a good offensive line like Dallas.

Stephen needs to thump Daddy in the nose and tell him that. The coaches need to start cram-studying Cassel. The team needs to figure out a way to win this weekend somehow, someway despite Weeden.

Then, give it to Cassel when the Patriots come to town.

Maybe so but fact is Weeden is not Romo, Cassel is not Romo. Most us of figured if we got into a shoot out we were in trouble. Dallas put up 28 point the defense failed to do their part. Looking at the prediction hell most everyone had Dallas scoring 20 points or less and yet winning the game. I think Linehan should have tried to be more aggressive in the 2nd half but they continued to play it close to the vest but in my view the big disappointment was not Weeden, he did what was expected the problem was defense not doing what most all of us expected.

Weeds was efficient. But who wouldn't be when you throw 5 yard dumpoffs to a speedster in Dunbar the entire game! Dunbar had half the yards and receptions!

It got really embarrassing when they lined up deep and we kept dumping it to him late and they just waited and tackled him! Take a deep shot just for freaking fun for crying out loud!!

Weeden did what was expected of him yesterday. That pick was stupid, for sure. And the slide was not a great decision, though if he was erring on the side of not turning it over and did't think he had time to throw it out of bounds (and he might not have, because he's that uncoordinated), I prefer the lost time to the alternative.

The reality is, it's too hard to play QB in the NFL, and we got what we should be expecting to get from a backup. It's not going to be a Cinderella story where Romo goes down and we find Tom Brady was sitting on the bench the whole time. We're going to have to win games when the backup QB is checking down and sustaining long drives.

And, for the record, some of those check downs were pretty effective plays.

Even Romo didn't look all that great in game two with a marginal starter and a practice squad receiver as his starting wideouts, and that's not going to change by bringing in Cassell or Moore. I'm sure other teams will be more than happy to let us waste downs in some futile attempt to prove that we can "stretch the defense" with two guys who can't hold on to the ball. The 8-man fronts are going nowhere.

If Weeden had played poorly I would agree fact is he didn't. I do not expect Dallas to play musical QB nor should they. They need to give Weeden a bit more leeway and 2nd defense needs to step up. 141 rushing was ridicules.

I don't see any fear in Weeden. I see absolute complacency. I sincerely do not think he cares about winning and losing. He is collecting a paycheck and would be just as happy to do so carrying a clip board. You have to have an almost arrogance to be a great passer. Arrogance and a killer instinct. Weeden would rather juggle a ball of yarn than attack a defense.

Great and ballsy are two different things. Cassell can and will make all the throws. He is a great deep ball thrower and is aggressive in looking for it.

Like others have said, this isn't all on Weeden, he doesn't call the plays. At some point, however, he has to tell the coaches the Falcons are taking away the dump offs and they need to attack deep. He'll never be that guy. That's why he isn't ballsy.

I disagree with giving it to Cassel but I agree with everything you said. I'd rather see Kellen because he's young enough to probably not realize how serious things are and might be that spark we need. Maybe he's that kid that can come in just like that other kid that came in for relief of an old Bledsoe several years ago. As long as his first pass isn't an INT!
