Jerry needs to be honest here

Jerry is ultimately responsible for this mess. But McClay can't evaluate defensive talent to save his life. If Jerry keeps the 1st round picks he already has, and lets McClay make picks, they may as well pick all offensive linemen. Thats the only good picks he can make.

I know, I know, when has Jerry ever been honest about the team or take a rational view of where his team is at.

But blowing picks on this misguided belief that he's a player away on defense from being a contender would be idiotic, with the caveat that if they could land a legitimate long term "piece" in a trade. But that's unlikely. So don't go out there and blow even a 3rd round pick on some short term option.

I am under no delusion that this defense is talented. It's not. But we also have a DC problem. And no matter who you bring in via trade, it's not going to change a fundamental flaw of this defense.

We have wandered aimlessly for nearly 3 decades because Jerry and his dimwitted son have consistently overrated their own team and overvalued their efforts at building a championship roster. Blowing picks for short term solutions is just a continuation of that.

Don't be dumb Jerry.

Stopped reading at Jerry and honest being used in the same sentence.

Jerry and Honesty...that's an oxymoron if I ever heard one.

Jerry will make some trades. That is inevitable...
To be honest, I was in favor of making a trade or two BEFORE Sunday's game. But now I see several reasons to hold off until AFTER the season.

*** Eberflus and his scheme may not return next season
*** Why risk trading for a player who may not fit your next DC scheme
*** Waiting until the season ends could offer other players
*** It is a chance to go after the best DC and let him rebuild the D

My thinking now is just to ride this out and evaluate the best players to bring back

I mean unless its a sure fire player, fact is teams usually dont trade those you know like Micah....ooh wait...

Jerry isn't going to be honest. He wants the fans to keep coming in his crypt and keep spending that fan money. Why in hell would he tell the truth?

I know but all I'm saying is he needs to be careful trading high picks NOW for a player who may or may not fit a new DC scheme. At this point, it costs nothing to wait.....

no it doesnt and honestly without an over haul in the FO it really doesnt matter... if we have many picks in the next draft who is picking them?

..Jerry is nice man, a family man.

He wont fire anyone, unless they talk about his wife. ; )..

What do you mean don't be dumb Jerry? He is dumb.

He can make it up to us fans by firing Eberwuss.

Jerry doesnt care about Defense. Even Micah fell to him (and he tried to get out of drafting him), pretty much all other 1st Rd defensive picks are drafted for NEED.

Further noted in 3 different DC's in three years, all of which:

  • were all employed previously by Jerry
  • had all gone on to become Head Coaches around the league (ergo, they must be talented). Jerry looks backwards, not forwards. He's choosing DC's that talk his talk, say they can do it on the cheap as how they have a scheme (regardless of the players and their skillsets). .
Jerry just doesnt care about Defense (unless its Doomsday level, D doesnt sell).....so he employs a HOPE at DC, gives them aging/former 1st Rd Picks and hopes.....or trades away the best player, but sells it as an UPGRADE ON THE RUN DEFENSE.

He needs to be 'honest' that:
  • we need to heavily retool on the Defense......even at the expense of Defense,
  • if we arent going to pay $30m plus on two WR's .....then act now, to build for 2026/27 (I would bite Broaddus' hand off if we could get two 1st Rd picks for CeeDee).
  • there appears A LOT OF DISCUSSIONS BETWEEN PLAYERS ON WHAT THEY'RE DOING. Is the DC wrong, the players untalented and/or Jerry's just not interested
If we are going for a new DC do it now for next year

In regards to the bolded, what you're saying may be true. Then again for all we know, maybe McClay is doing just fine evaluating talent however at the end of the day, Jerry is who signs the contracts and pays the players. I don't know the answer and not to be rude but, neither do you. We don't know outside of Jerry signing the players and having the ultimate decision...

It’s not about winning this year …

You want to hold on to picks so we can draft a taco Charlton or a Mazi Smith?

We haven’t been able to hit on defensive players. I am fine getting proven vets with a few years left.

We need to trade Pickens now while his value is at its peak. I just can't imagine us giving him a Justin Jefferson contract on top of CD while sporting the worst defense in the NFL. I guess we could franchise him, but he's not going to like that. He bet on himself this year taking less so he could land a big contract.

We could probably get a first round and 3rd for him now. Lots of legit contenders in need of his services. I'm looking at KC, Buffalo, Denver and NE.

We hit on Micah. Taco and Mazi have nothing to do with any future drafts. You want to throw Shante Carver in there too? They were busts and every team has them. But, Taco could have easily been TJ Watt. All you can do is put yourself in position to draft these guys. If you fail, you're not going to free agent or trade your way to Super Bowl anyway. The path is through the draft hitting on players who have to play cheap for 3-4 years, with a sprinkle of free agents. Future first round picks are like gold in the NFL.
