His team would have been playing the Falcons if they had been able to beat the Giants last week. Instead, Jones watched the game on TV.
He and wife Gene were at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth Sunday evening, attending a private screening of "Albert Nobbs," a new film starring Glenn Close.
"I had hoped to come to this wonderful night rushing from our stadium," Jones said. "You just realize when you're watching these playoffs how important it is, and I really hated for our fans as much as I do my feelings, because it's just a different game when you get in the playoffs."
Jones added that he was "proud" of the Giants for "peaking at the right time," but he also pledged that things won't be status quo at Valley Ranch after Dallas' disappointing finale.
"We'll make some changes; I'll assure you we'll make changes," Jones said. "When you work for youself, there's not but one thing to change — that's what's in that mirror."
"I've had to make some pretty drastic changes in my time. The only thing that stays consistent is, I've had this quarterback for 50-something years," Jones said, turning to his wife. "That doesn't change."
The Cowboys owner offered no specifics about what changes might be afoot for the Cowboys.
"We want it to get better every year," Gene Jones said.
