Jerry says firing Eberflus was one of the hardest decisions he's ever had to make

It was the hardest because JERRY then has to come to the conclusion that he himself was to blame for hiring him! Self awareness/reflection isn't something Jerry does well. Humility isn't in his soul.
Hiring him was just part of the failure equation. The other part is Jerry knowing he, as GM, gave Eberflus a crap defensive roster. Eberflus needed to be fired, but I would take Eberflus remaining if it meant Jerry did what really needs to be done - hiring a real GM, giving that GM full control of football operations, and Jerry shrinking into the shadows. Eberflus was not good, but the defense could improve even with him if a competent GM with authority and accountability is brought in.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to Hard Knocks on the decision:

“Our 2025 season was a roller-coaster. We were inconsistent on defense. The Eberflus decision of not going forward with him was one of the hardest that I’ve been involved in during my time with the Dallas Cowboys. But at the end of the day, I think it was the thing to do.”

"The No. 1 motivator (in the NFL) is fear. Fear of maybe letting down your teammates or being embarrassed or chastised or fear of losing your job," Johnson told Patrick. "Where is the fear in Dallas? There is no fear in Dallas. It's a country club where everybody is buddies."

Jimmy nailed it years ago and nothing has changed.

That’s just his old age talking. Older people tend to get sentimental and cry more often then they did while younger

Okay Jerry, yeah...sure...

We'll have to disagree then. Jerry doesn't care about money. Now...his "brand" and image? Admitting he was wrong? The guy is in continuous double down mode trying to prove how right he is about things. Hoping ONE of these times he makes it then can tell everyone "SEE!....I was right all along!".
Maybe he shouldn't care about money, but he does. He hates paying coaches not to coach. That's a big reason he has no interest in a Ben Johnson or Vrabel. That's why Garrett and Mike just had their contracts expire. The last coordinator he fired was Nolan and that was years ago when I'm sure Nolan didn't make nearly as much as Eberflus.

Harder to fire Eberflus than it was firing Jimmy. Sounds about right.

It should have been one of the easiest ones you've ever made during the first month of the season. He was never going to work.

To be fair, JJ the friend is talking here. JJ the GM/owner did what needed to be done. I believe Jerry actually cares about everyone in the Cowboys’ organization- except Rowdy. Elf that dude.
Yeah, elf him

He probably thinks the hardest decision was having to hire Bill Parcells so he could get the new stadium built.
