Per his DC.com press conference.

"He was doing some pretty good stuff (today), we'll advance that tomorrow, and hopefully maybe even get him out in the actual team work."

Good news there, I'll personally be shocked if Newman doesn't give it a go on Sunday night.

Also said Burnett "should be out at practice tomorrow."

Ellis is "working on it". Says he needs to get to where he can raise his heel.

When asked if Ellis is still a possibility for Sunday, the reply was, "I really don't want to go that far, but he is working on what he's capable..."

From my take, it sounded like Ellis is definitely out for Sunday night.

I'd hate to lose to a divisional rival, but I would prefer that some of these guys just sat a little longer rather than rushing them out there to get more seriously injured. Who knows, maybe these same guys wouldn't even be listed as doubtful under Parcell's watch.

I agree with the concept and would concur if the game were on the road. However, being it is the first time we have opened at home since 2003, on national tv against a division rival, I think Newman and Burnett have to play if they are even somewhat capable. They can sit out against the Dolphins on Sept 16 if necessary.

I don't think the question is "can Newman play?" as much as it is "will he be able to plant his foot and cut the way he needs to" I never thought that he would miss a game but I am worried that he will not be the same player he was before his injury.

I'd agree to except this is a divisional game, at home. Need all hands on deck. Can't afford to drop this one.

Newman needs to play so he can just completely tear that thing and have it fixed.

Jones sees improvement from Newman

Wade Phillips is tired of talking about the status of his injured players.

"I'm not going to go into what I think's gonna happen," Phillips said when asked about Terence Newman (foot), Kevin Burnett (ankle) and Greg Ellis (Achilles), all of whom didn't practice Wednesday.

Not to worry, Cowboys fans. Jerry Jones was more than happy to provide an update.

After watching Newman work on the side field with a strength coach, Jones said: "I really liked his response today. We'll see how he feels in the morning. Those things are sore in the morning. I know he's going to do everything he can to play. We're hoping we can get him out in the actual team (practice on Thursday)."

Newman missed the last three preseason games with a partial tear in the muscle that supports his right arch. If he can't play Sunday against the Giants, fourth-year player Jacques Reeves will start at left corner.

"He was pushing off and then would push off and then come back a little while later and push off again," Jones said of Newman's work at practice. "He did some things today that when he pushed off a little yesterday were a little more sensitive yesterday than today. So it was an improvement from yesterday."

Jones also says he expects Burnett to practice Thursday.

The news regarding Ellis wasn't nearly as optimistic.

"He's working on it," Jones said, referring to Ellis returning.

On the bright side, receiver Terry Glenn went through a full workout for the first time since he had knee surgery during training camp.

Phillips didn't mind commenting on Glenn.

"I thought he moved around well," Phillips said.

The Giants have their own injury concerns. Cornerback Sam Madison (hamstring) practiced Wednesday, but his status remains uncertain for Sunday.

Even if he were going to play, he hasn't practiced to any great degree in this defense and I fail to see how he could be depended on to start.

This is a new scheme and philosophy. I am sure he would need some practice time to be effective.

Sounds like good news on TNew, although he could pull up lame at any time. But we know TNew is on board and will give his all. Greg on the other hand, seems to me like he wants out more than he wants in....:(

It's so nice to have Jerry back in the spotlight.

Yeah, I'm sure the Giants appreciate his up to the minute injury status updates.

Can't wait for the Sunday Night's Gameplan press conference.
