Action always speaks louder than words. Even in Jerry's case. I thought this article was interesting enough to share.

If actions speak louder than words, Jerry Jones has accepted the lion's share of the accountability for the Dallas Cowboys' failures in 2013.

It might have required a lot of convincing from head coach Jason Garrett, but the fact of the matter is that the moves announced Tuesday night were about attempting to clean up the mess created by the owner/general manager during Jones' infamously "uncomfortable" offseason a year ago.

Jones

Bill Callahan was a poor fit as a playcaller in Garrett's system. Monte Kiffin is no longer a competent NFL defensive coordinator, much less an elite one as he was back in the day with Tampa Bay. Their authority has been stripped with a couple of the most politely phrased demotions in recent NFL history.

Garrett got to pick his playcaller, bringing in good buddy Scott Linehan, whose offensive philosophy is much more in line with the head coach's. He has a defensive coordinator who has proven he could be effective this decade with Rod Marinelli's promotion.

It's a bit puzzling to force Callahan to stay at Valley Ranch as the least powerful offensive coordinator in the NFL, perhaps even welcoming dysfunction on the coaching staff. Kiffin's title of assistant head coach/defense is amusing, but it at least makes sense for him to serve as a trusted advisor to his loyal, longtime lieutenant Marinelli.

So the staff's construction isn't perfect, but the compromises represent a major offseason win for Garrett.

But The Garrett homers told us all it was a Garrett hire, that he wasn't a puppet and had this amazing relationship with kiffin from his time in Tampa............... so it was a jerry hire and does that make Garrett the puppet????

I am curious, maybe someone more knowledgable than me can answer this question. Do any other GM's assemble Coaching staffs similar to the way Jerry has in Dallas? Not being in the know myself, it seemed to me that the Head Coach generally picked his own Coordinators, etc.

This is a dysfunctional franchise thing. Jerry's the king if disfuntion.

Let me tell you where I stand on this subject, Jerry likes to hire coaches that come in with little or no clout. That's why he hire's coaches that no other team really wants and are just happy to have a hc job (Gailey, Campo, Phillips, and Garrett), they can't demand much because they have no leverage.

Initially people on this board were saying that Garrett has a big say in the coaches and players that this organization picks up but over time it's being revealed that he didn't.

I now believe that Garrett knows that this is his do or die year and if he's going to go out then he's going to do it his way. I think he told Jerry that he's tried it his(JJ's) way now and it hasn't worked. JG may know that JJ doesn't want to pay 2 different coaching staffs so in that he gets his leverage.

My overall opinion, this is a good thing for the Cowboys and for JG personally, if he succeeds then from now on he'll be able to run this team his way because his way would have been proven thus putting the clout to where it suppose to be, with the coach.

This is a very unique way of doing things and anyone who suggests every team does it this way is basically insulting your intelligence.

Yes but there are distinct advantages to doing it this way.

The only "advantage" is that it pleases Jerry Jones on a personal level.

There is no other tactical advantage that can even be suggested.

If there were, more than couple of owners in NFL history would have done it.

It's a Garrett hire now that Jerry has accepted blame. If Jerry didn't accept blame, it was Jerry coaching from the booth.

Come on! You know how this works!

It's an okay article, since it, like every other article, relies on pure speculation on who is hiring who, etc.

But at least someone is writing something different for a change.

That's what I'm getting. When did RM get named DC and SL named OC?

I think Jerry felt so bad for Tony Romo he paid him over 100 million. Tony wants to win and Jerry Jones has wasted his entire career on bad drafts after bad drafts. I guess if someone said, hey you won't get some ring on your finger but here is 100 million I would just say ok and be done with it. More to life than football.

Of course. It's the perfect plan. This way there's zero accountability and silence runs amok........silently.

Lets just hope this translates onto the field of play.

Why compromise at all? We are the Dallas Cowboys. We should have at least competent coaches in all positions,if not top 5 coaches in all positions. We dont, Maybe bottom 5 in most positions. This year we just moved around the same incompetent coaches. Get rid of the trash and start hiring coaches with conviction in the system and fire in they're belly. This is probably the most infuriating thing about the boys. The front Office. Man, If my boss ran his business this way we would be out of business.
