He has admitted that he wanted Paxton Lynch.....then Connor Cook. Hope Dak enjoys coming to work knowing he was an afterthought.
And he has complained about NOT overpaying to get Lynch. Which is his way of letting everyone else know that if it was up to him, he would have overpaid. So not sure if this is good or bad....but it certainly confirms Jerry is not pulling the strings. He is letting us know that if Paxton Lynch turns out to be a stud...."don't blame me".
But this is what it boils down to for me. He should show a united front. What's done is done. And you don't let your new players know that you really wanted someone else. And you don't out the front office/coaching staff by letting everyone know you disagreed with the direction they took. Of course this stuff happens....but the quality organizations don't come out and SAY it.
There is too much transparency. We are an open book. It is simply unprofessional. And I know nothing can be done about it...but if you cannot muzzle him after all these years.....I think it will get even worse as he starts to circle the drain.
Not sure I agree with your assessment of what Jerry said and what it means.
He wanted Lynch and would have overpaid to get him.
But what really transpired is the Broncos out maneuvered Jerry for Lynch. That, in and of itself is not a bad thing. Doesn't make Jerry stupid or inept. There is plenty of evidence to make those claims, but Elway made the correct move when he needed to because he knew Jerry was trying to move up.
Now I do agree that Jerry will toss others under the bus, as if they had a mother-loving thing to do with any decision after Jerry talks himself into a player.
As far as the players are concerned, they are meat. Simply put they are a cog in a machine Jerry "builds," and their feelings are secondary to his ownership.
But this is one aspect of Jerry where I might agree. Send an unmistakable message that your time here is predicated on your value to the franchise and nothing more. While there may be a pretense this is a family, it is, in fact, a business and you buy tomorrow with excelling today. So strap on your big boy pants and get ready to impress. Because you, in most likelihood, can be replaced fairly easily.
Come big, or you get sent home.
