I dunno, sounds to me like he just has buyer's remorse...I don't take anything negative from JJ's comments as long as nothing changes in the draft process...they have gotten better in the last couple of years....and, they made no trades this year - stuck to the plan.....I am happy with the way things shook down this year

Jerry's not stupid. he's just not a football GM. He should stick with marketing the cowboys. he's not going to beat out teams with actual GMs whose entire focus is putting together the best personnel and who actually have the risk of being fired if they are not successful. You can't have several other roles and act as a GM part time and beat out those guys. This is why our drafts have been better as of late. It looks like Jerry is actually deferring more to his staff and we're spending less time on the big Jerry gambles and actually have someone like McClay and whoever else putting together a cohesive drafting strategy. It seems like the 2nd rounder is given to Jerry to play around with his 'gambles'.

So, does this mean it cannot work because you have never seen it.

There was a day when I had never seen a team with the season rushing title go and win a Super Bowl.

That occurred three times in the early to mid 890's with Emmitt Smith.

I guarantee in 1992 there were articles written as he won that title that teams have never won it all with the title holder running the ball for them. It was mentioned in print, on the radio, and on TV.

I think of this every time I see someone say or imply never in a comment here about this league. The moment you say it never will, it usually does.

Thanks Emmitt for proving them wrong.

No, but its a combo of giving up two much for a prospect thats not worth. Those trades are usually desperation moves and take assets away the team needs to support a young QB

So... whenever anyone says or infers that Jerry Jones has totally manipulated every Cowboy draft... can we link this thread as a past discussion that disputes that claim?

Sure, the moment we can link to the press conference where Jerry retracts the comment he has made ad infinitum that he is the final decision maker.

I'm sure he is influence a great deal. But when they have on the table a decision to be made, you don't believe every head turns toward Caesar for the thumbs up or thumbs down?

One of the reasons Im glad we didnt trade a 1st to move up for Lynch

I have litterally never seen the " trade a future first to move into the late first for a QB" work.
No, I meant for Goff/Wentz. The top Qbs in the draft. Basically replace Prescott w/them.

Wrong name my b, defeated my whole point I meat to make. Meant Wentz:D The real reason was bc we went 4-12 w/o Romo that gave us the 4th overall; perfect and much cheaper place to trade up and get your guy in Wentz. He is now a year older and going w/later prospects. Spilled milk, Elliott is here and support him, etc. Also the same reason I wanted to do it bf teams like STL and PHI could jump us. Shoulda been danglin that thing to them since the end of the season.

Because he said he could not sleep after round 1...he said he was still mad the next morning... and he said my BIGGEST success in life have come from overpaying.

We are talking about a guy he gave up 2 #1 for Joey Galloway...we are talking about a guy that gave up a #1 and a #3 for Roy Williams...and tore up his contract and gave him $45 million dollars...while he was battling Plantar Fascitis...because he saw him as the heir apparent to TO. I know Troy Aikman and Deion Sanders had some input in the Joey trade. But after you live through that disaster...you turn around and do it again. Who in their right mind would EVER view Roy Williams as TO heir apparent? If we actually employ someone who gave Jerry that advice...they should not have a job in the NFL!

I know someone who know Martin Mayhew (Detroit GM)..and he said Mayhew was STUNNED what we agreed to give up for Roy....and even more stunned that we paid him before he showed us anything. He was overweight and injured when we re-did his contract

So basically you're saying Jerry has made a list of bad moves. But NOW all of the good moves are of him getting overruled? I just can't sit here and believe that if Jerry wanted Manziel he wouldn't be here. I just can't. My only source for feeling this way is the 30 years Jerry has been here. When has he been overruled or not gotten his way?

Jones talks out of his *** many times. He is the final decision maker but why are influential sources behind each selection disputed if he is only heeding his own opinion?

They are usually desperation moves.

Where is this written?

Jimmy thought Emmitt was a terrific back coming out of college. But Jimmy wanted a linebacker named James Francis. He went to Cincy at the 12th pick. Jimmy has stated many times he saw Emmitt falling and wondered what others didn't see. Whewn he got within reach Jimmy pulled a deal to move up to get him.

The Stealers were wanting Emmitt and so much like the Lynch deal, got out gunned by someone else.

Now this is not a quarterback, but it's all the same.

Joe Brodsky was chirping in his ear about Emmitt. Jimmy just wanted to shut him up.

Hasn't he admitted that Manziel would have been the pick if it was up to him? He has also admitted that they collaborate. So like I said...he was overruled on Maziel. And based on his comments...I think he was overruled on Lynch. And all I am saying is...this is a time to show a united front. Not go off the ranch and let everyone know that if Lynch turns out to be a stud....I want credit!

You lost me with Emmitt.

Im talking about teams using a future first to trade into the late first for a QB

I seem to remember hims saying that but for some reason I don't think Jerry went away kicking and screaming when they drafted Zach Martin.

These guys seem united to me. If he truly was "overruled" like you suggest than that shows a united front. That shows he's listening to guys more qualified then himself.

Again, he is influenced. Which means someone gets his ear and talks him into this player or that, and he goes against the wishes of others in the room because of this. Last year Garrett was not pleased with the move in the second round. If you watched the war room, he was looking like a petulant child when they maneuvered to get Gregory.

One might suspect the head coach would have a great deal of say in the player acquisition during the draft.

Now Stephen and Garrett and everyone were pretty vocal about Manziel, and Jerry changed his mind. But if he isn't the guy, then why would they have had to form a united front and stop him.

Stephen even said they had to stop Jerry from taking Johnny-Stupid.

So, if Jerry wasn't the final decision maker, and any decision requires his signing off, then why is it they had to all stand up to him to stop what would have been a HUGE train wreck for this franchise?

Again, I am not saying he doesn't listen to others. And this proves it. But I am saying his ego doesn't allow him not to take credit and be the final arbiter of what decisions are made..

LOL...I bet he did. This opinion you guys have of Jerry is funny. When the moves are bad he's controlling and don't listen to his scouts. But when a move works out he was kicking and screaming and pouting. AS if Jerry doesn't have control of the Cowboys lol. Like he doesn't own them lol.

Something stopped them last year.

Not sure what your point is. Based on this comment...something stopped 31 teams last year! I am not a spoiled fan that thinks a Super Bowl trophy is the ONLY way to measure a season. Heck...once Romo got hurt...I was not even expecting playoffs. But I did expect our team to be able to get 1st downs! I did expect a more pleasurable viewing experience on Sundays than what we got. We were told the most improved player on the team was Weeden! Well...it did not take long to realize that was not true.
