Jerry vs David Mulugheta

Lots of long winded posts here...

Keeping it short but to the point.

Jerry has the upper hand right now because of Pickens unstable past. Tag initiated, the pressure is on Pickens. He has to play both physically and professionally at the same level he played this year, for another entire season.

I don't think he can. I believe the cowboys will have a lesser offensive season than they did this year. He will either have multiple games where he doesnt show up because he struggles in the mental side of the game or he will have side line antics because of offense struggles.

Either way, Jerry has the upper hand right now. Maybe this was long winded also. Lol
Based on the sentiments you’ve expressed here can it be assumed you think no team is going to offer anything significant in trade for him? Or have you ascertained issues with Pickens that other teams can’t identify?

The fact that Jerry Jones was unable to resign Parsons gives Mulugheta an advantage.

If Jerry can't sign Pickens before opening day, the media criticism will heat up. For the 2nd year in a row, the inability to sign an important piece will create a distraction and further depict him as incompetent.

I believe that Pickens will not sign the franchise tag and intends to hold out.

Using the franchise tag to lower the salary of a player is rarely successful and will be seen as an affront by Pickens. It will get messy.
Right now, Pickens is expensive but still manageable. However, pushing this into the future will only make it much worse. With proper restructuring, the deal can still be done, but it must be handled carefully.

If Pickens doesn’t sign, there will be significant fallout. Tension will grow between the team and the fan base, and Jerry will be cast as the villain.

Some argue that the salary cap is holding us back, yet we currently have one of the lowest dead-money totals in the league.

If Pickens is tagged, I believe the situation will deteriorate. He will likely hold out and turn it into a distraction and a circus. That outcome helps no one, and the responsibility would fall squarely on Jerry.

Who you got, who will be the one that gets their way in the contract talks with Pickens and his other clients going forward. David is a tough cookie, he's the Drew Rosenhaus of this time frame. I think Jerry has met his match, who you got Jerry or David??
With the franchise tag Jones has all the leverage. Something he didn't have when it came to Parsons. It's a very real possibility that Pickens is forced to play under the tag. Unfortunate as they may sound. The compensation for him may just not be sufficient for a trade and Jones may simply NOT want to pay him what David M might demand.

He can't hold out and he can't create anything negative if he wants to cash in. He lowers his market value if he pulls any shenanigans. If he holds out he just loses money. He would be stupid to do so. He either signs a deal for the same money that Lamb got or he plays on the tag and has a huge year to line him up for the new contract with Dallas or another team.

I'm not so sure he holds out. He would have no contract and no pay. His recent salary is about 3.6 mil/yr iirc (210k per game). 28 million is a significant pay raise. He may not like it but I have my doubts that he would leave that much money on the table (1.6 million per game). Better to be disgruntled and tough it out for another year compared to not being paid for a year if he doesn't sign the tag by week 10. If he declines to sign the tag and doesn't play, the Cowboys can tag him again in 2027.

The Cowboys...with the franchise tag...have a LOT of leverage to use against him. David M. simply doesn't matter much in this situation once the Cowboys pull the trigger...at least for 2026.

Jazz I dont know if we win in that scenario.

You pay Pickens and he turns into a pumpkin mentally, then what?

Looking at the 2027 draft, there are going to be a lot of STUD WR coming out without the drama and mental issues. I say tag him and trade him. Unless a miracle happens this defense wont be ready to compete until then anyways.
If you don't trust him then you don't sign him. It could happen even if you tag him. I don't care if he returns or not but he isn't going to be the reason the Cowboys break the playoff curse. Hardly any teams have 2 #1 WRs. The Cowboys have Always had good offenses. This defense needs to be fixed.

Oh, I was just going off the assumption Jerry will do his normal. Try and keep Pickens to make Dak happy and have a circus act offense. Franchise him this year, Next year, wait until last minute and when Pickens hates us for dragging it out but then sign him last second for the highest receiver salary in the league.

However, I do think there are teams out there, including the Raiders, that will give a lot for Pickens. I hope Jerry is open to some offers for him.

No team in the NFL needs draft capital more than the Las Vegas Raiders. They’ll give up none of what they have for any player. They are more likely to trade a player they have for additional draft picks.

Jerry is a very poor negotiator, while Mulugeta is a wise and competent one. It's just that simple.

There will be several teams that want Pickens. It could cause a bidding war. I can see teams like Denver, New England, and the Eagles ponying up two first-round picks for him. If the asking price is just a second-rounder, they can easily afford that and still pay his salary.

Both New England and the Eagles will be losing their top receiver. If it only takes a second-rounder to replace a top receiver, it is an easy deal to make. Thus, the Cowboys should ask for two first-round picks and some players, or not deal him at all.

I agree with all of this except "money isnt everything"........for Jerry its the ONLY thing.

Hes been quoted as saying, " I go to sleep thinking about making money and wake up doing the same"

For him, a legacy is $$$$$
This is kind of sad if true.

You would think being the owner of the premier NFL franchise that at the end of your life the only kick you would get is winning the SuperBowl and enjoying it with your staff, your coaches, your players and the fans.

Adding another zero to your net worth would be pointless and hollow. Unless all you care about is money.

I genuinely wonder how Jerry feels when he stands beside Kraft and realizes that man has accomplished more on the NFL field as an owner with less resources.

I disagree here. They will go for a QB with their first round and they will definitely want to give the QB a top end receiver to start their career with.

Mulugheta is a professional. He is only interested in the value of his clients’ contracts. If his client has additional wishes or concerns he’s going to defer to his client and represent his client’s interests.

Jerry has the other 52 players on the roster and the business of an entire franchise to worry about. If it gets personal it will only be because Jerry Jones makes it so. Comments like “I don’t even know his agent’s name” is at best unprofessional. Jerry Jones is a damned fool.
Like he did with Micah who didn't want to leave.... Got it.

Micah, like every other NFL player, plays for money. He does not play the game for a team. The notion that Micah Parsons cares what team he plays for is typical NFL fan wishful thinking. Loyalty is a fan characteristic. Not a player characteristic.

They are not going to spend $30+ million a year on a receiver until they’re sure they have a quarterback that can make the investment worthwhile. You’re thinking every team has a GM as stupid as Jerry.

Bowers has more receptions since he came into the league than Pickens. He’ll do for now.

You're trying to respond with generalities instead of this specific instance where the POS you're glorifying didn't act the way you're projecting him to be and Micah said he wanted to stay.
