On DC Matt Eberflus: “He will get there. He’s trying to eliminate those explosive plays. … We know Eberflus. … What you really want more than anything is at times like these, you don’t want people that break and run. You want them to hang in, stick in there, look pragmatically, make the adjustment if necessary, but do it begrudgingly because Flus has a plan. It hasn’t worked. It always looks bad when it doesn’t work. … If you can’t take that, you can’t coach in the NFL.”

-Zimmer supposedly wanted to be HC and didnt want to stay on as DC

Thats pretty why you have had 3 DC's in three years. Jones biggest fault here is not getting rid of McCarthy after 2023 and going with a new staff then. If he does that, then we probably have continuity now

It doesn't matter if the HC is offensive or defensive. But get some damn balance on the team. Loading up on offense and treating the defense like an afterthought is what has brought us to this sorry end.

Of course it matters. Schotty has very little control on the defense for 2 reasons. 1. He didn't hire Matt as a result Matt is just doing things the way he wants and not being flexable enough so they players can actually perform well. 2. He isn't sitting in the room designing a defense that can his players can run.

Dak and this offense is fairly talented and doesn't require much help.

Agree, but he had to know that DQ and Zimm were not here for the long haul. Plenty of options to find a young DC to come in and build a program, but.......well, you know

So I guess he's saying that we should have kept Zimmer. Quinn left for a head coaching job and Eberflus wasn't available last year.

It’s pretty obvious that Snotty and Eberfluke will be here at least 3 seasons. They’ll probably be here as long as Dak is. Might get a fresh start with new coaches and QB in 2028 but not before.

You will never get a fresh start with Darth LeatherFace at the helm. Only more retreads, nepojourneymen, and over the hill comfort hires.

I never liked this hire and will continue to be frustrated by it. Also Jerry's fault is letting 4 of the top 11 players on this defense over the past two years and didn't replace them with anything that matched what they had. that is why we have an historically bad defense...lack of talent at coach (including letting al Harris leave) and players.

The GM should have let his HC select a DC. Schotty has enough contacts around the League and in the college ranks that he could have gotten a number of potential DCs in here with fresh ideas.

My thought is that the GM wanted someone on staff with HC experience to backup the rookie HC. Even if that person failed as a HC.

Is Jerry saying that as an excuse to not make it four DCs in four years? Eberflus has failed us and needs to go but firing him midseason won't fix anything. The real fix for this defense is in its players. We need a pass rush that is capable of getting to the QB fast. We need a defense that can stop the run. It's embarrassing when a RB we let go is running all over us. Jerry is 100% to blame, not because he's hiring these DCs, but because he traded away Parsons, the best player on our defense.
