Got this from Chocolatelab on the silverstar board......

Steve Dennis from ESPN 103.3 says that he was talking to Jim Burt this morning, and Burt said that behind closed doors, Parcells cannot stop gushing about Chris Canty.

Plus, Burt watched tape of all the practices here and he says his own opinion is that not only is Canty going to be a starter, he's going to be a star. He said he reminds him of Jason Taylor plus forty pounds.

Sounds too good to be true... But Dennis says Burt isn't connected to the team and hasn't gushed about every player here... So there's no reason to believe he's somehow shilling for the team.

That is so good to hear. He and Spears will make great bookends for the next decade. I still say he was the steal of the Draft.

It just keeps getting better and better. Our D is going to be amazing this year - and they're only going to get better. Can't wait for that San Diego game.

Canty - Yes sir a stud

In our 3-4, maybe not as a stand up 4-3 DE.
Coyle had him a lot like Pryce, Future Pro Bowler talent. Best value in draft.

He could play either scheme.

Hmmm. A Jason Taylor comparison to go along with the Lawrence Taylor comparisons one of our other draft picks is drawing. Sounds like the makings of a defense that is "Taylor made" for the a deep run in the post-season.

<Outlaw utters a pre-emptive groan and promises himself to never again take the easy bait>

So can Ellis and Glover though ...

It's like real estate ... except it goes like this ... rotation, rotation rotation ...
Good post.

I knew Canty was special as soon as I saw his higlight reel. He is just down right a disruptive playmaker.

Thats definately good to hear. He's just perfect for a 3-4 defense and his wingspan should cause distinct problems for OT's around the league. That guy has some long arms.

Can you imagine how difficult it'll be for OT's to get their hands on him and lock up on him?

The only question I had about him coming out of the draft was: Can he play with leverage? He's so tall and sometimes it's difficult for those guys to get leverage on the offensive linemen. Apparently, I needn't have worried.

Spears is going to be a monster at LE with his athleticism... I'm convinced of that. He's just too strong and too mobile not to be a force as a 3-4 end. If Canty is as good as he seems to be, we've got quite a pair of starting DE's for the next decade or so.

Then, throw in a rotation that has Ellis, Coleman, Ratliff and maybe Johnson and we're going to wear out some offensive linemen.

With Ferguson and Glover at the nose (and probably Ratliff or Johnson as a third guy), our DL is going to be outstanding.

With all of them doing their thing, the linebackers are going to have a hey-day.

I'm trying to keep the enthusiasm in check, but it's becoming increasingly difficult. I think we have a chance to have a dominant, pressure defense that can compensate for a less than stellar offense and flat-out win games for you.

If our offense can become an effective, grind-it-out, running offense with the ability to hit the occasional deep ball off of play action... look out. If that's the case, we could make some real post-season noise this year... and the next few years would only see us get better as our young players grow into pro bowlers.

Easy there big fella... it's still just pre-season.

Canty! Canty! Canty! :shades:
OOh, WG..I'd love to hear this 'behind closed doors" gushing of Tuna's.

But I did see the televised pc last week (the one when Spears got hurt), and Canty was "off-stage" to the right laughling loudly..he must have been watching it and just laughing, and Bill interrutpted the pc to bust his chops a bit.

"What do YOU want, Canty?" And he got that sarcastic look he gets before he has to smile in spite of himself.

You could tell it was True Love, WG.

I think the biggest key is that the OT is going to have his hands overly full trying to contain our DEs and when you add in the blitzing LB - with Ware's amazing speed and quickness - there could be a LOT of plays where he simply runs right around an OT for a brutal sack. The way this is shaping up is downright scary - you'd almost think Parcells had some kind of plan. ;)

It's good to know it's not just me ... take a puff off of your inhaler and jump up and down as much as you want ... this year is going to be great if we can keep this defense healthy ...

I want to contain my excitement, because I don't want to expect too much from the rookies, but what I'm hearing is making it difficult. I'm trying to taper it because I don't want to be disappointed like I have in the past years. Hopefully, barring any injuries, we're starting to see the beginnings of a dominant defense.

Canty is all THAT

We landed a top 15 player in the 4th. Scheme change, talent upgrades and we are ready to really do some damage. I feel like its 1991 or 1971 = another run is in our midst!

Downright sacry defense - and I believe this was Parcells master plan. He attempted to address playmakers on offense. Upgrade Oline and build to what we now HAVE - A base 3-4 defense that can rip your head off.
