Kevlar sealed the deal with Jim Jeffcoat, who will join the staff Monday as defensive line coach. Jeffcoat is the same guy who spent 15 years in the NFL and seven more on the staff of the Dallas Cowboys.

"I'm excited," Jeffcoat said. "I'm excited about having the opportunity to work with coach (John) Skladany (defensive coordinator and safeties) and coach (Leon) Burtnett (linebackers) and the rest of the defensive staff. I can obviously learn a lot from them."

Jeffcoat was a first-round pick of the Cowboys in 1983 and spent 12 seasons with Dallas, winning two Super Bowl rings. Jeffcoat, who spent the last three years of his playing career with the Buffalo Bills, finished with 102.5 career sacks in 227 games. In his coaching tenure with the Cowboys (1998-2004), Jeffcoat spent his first two seasons as a defensive line assistant and the remaining five years tutoring the defensive ends.

"I first worked with the inside guys, and then took over the outside guys, so I have knowledge of all positions (on the defensive line)," Jeffcoat said. "I understand what they need to do to be successful. There are certain techniques that you need to be successful, especially in a four-man front. You need to understand those techniques and the reason behind them because it helps the hold defense.

"You have to look at your defense as a whole machine, and the linemen, the linebackers and the secondary are parts of that machine. To make that machine go you have to be using the proper techniques - where you are on the field and why you're doing those things."

So, any thoughts on how the staff is shaping up?

Definitely one of my all-time favorite Cowboys....I hope he has a lot of success in Houston. Hopefully he can pluck a few quality recruits from other schools, except UT of course.....
