I am really looking forward to the Monday night game between the Giants and the Cowboys. It should be a great ballgame. With Philadelphia losing on Sunday, it puts even more importance on this NFC East game because they are the leaders in the division.
Had this game been in New York, I would be going with the Giants. But Dallas has owned the Giants on Monday night, especially in Texas Stadium. I think that gives the Cowboys the edge.
However, the concern, as always for the Cowboys, is protecting quarterback Drew Bledsoe. I have no concerns about their defense, no concerns about them running the ball or their receivers. The Cowboys' only problem is when they don't protect Bledsoe.
Philadelphia gave the Cowboys and Bledsoe problems a couple weeks ago and Houston followed the same routine last Sunday. There is no question that if you start to bang on Bledsoe you are going to get some sacks and maybe some turnovers. Philadelphia rushed him up the middle and so did Houston. When the Cowboys went to maximum protection in the second half of that last game, Bledsoe scored a bunch of points.
The Giants are a little different because they have an excellent front four with two very good defensive ends in Osi Umenyiora and Michael Strahan. They don't have to go to maximum rush in order to get to Bledsoe. The Giants can play coverage on defense and get the rush from their front four. Dallas has to be careful, though, and give right tackle Marc Colombo some help with Strahan. That could be critical.
But I just think the emotion and the Monday night factor are going to give the Cowboys an edge in this game. Bledsoe can produce if given enough time to throw.
