JJT: Robert Griffin III isn't a good fit as backup QB in Dallas

The guy who committed one of the worst trades in NFL history for RGIII? And in the same draft went and drafted Kirk Cousins so essentially used 2 1st round picks, 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick to find a quarterback lol? That's your idea of knowing quarterbacks?

Shanahan never wanted to make that trade for RGIII. That was solely on Dan Snyder. Shanahan drafted Cousins as an insurance policy if/when RGIII flamed out. As Shanahan knew he would.

That's incorrect. He wanted Peyton Manning but Manning wouldn't come to a NFC East team. When that fell through Shanahan wanted RGIII but didn't want him at the expense of all they traded for but he eventually came around.

“I did not feel good about giving up two No. 1s and a No. 2, and they all knew I felt that way,” Shanahan said. “I said, ‘Hey, yeah, I would take the chance. But I want you to know that he’s really going to have to commit to what we’re doing.'”

"Although Shanahan said he liked Griffin coming out of Baylor, he also noted some problems that they had with Griffin in Washington."

We've been calling for types of plays for as long as Garrett has been OC. I doubt that Garrett will modify the offense just to suite the needs of one player.

I agree which is why I want a backup QB that will make 1 or 2 reads then tuck and run.

Thanks for the quotes. I supports my point. Shanahan didn't want to do the deal.

Good. Draft your next QB at #4 and don't look back.

I totally agree but even if you draft a QB I would sign a vet
The key to me to develope a QB who is like the qb's coming out is let them learn before you throw them into the fire

Signing vets has gotten expensive. J Ville just threw 4 mil a year at Chad Henne and he cant play dead.

I would be OK with that. If the Commanders can have RGIII inactive for 16 games paying him $14M or so, I can live with the #4 pick inactive on a rookie deal.

The key is mental reps, coaching, QB meetings, film study, etc.

We still really need a vet backup and a developmental QB.

I really wish we'd just bite the bullet and draft the premium talent in Carson Wentz but the Cowboys will love Jalen Ramsey too much to pass.

most of JJTs work is turd paper and I find this consistent with the rest of his work. Who the hell knows what RG3s capacity to accelerate in another system is? He has been injured or just off injury most of his career. If the Cowboys have issue with his Health, I get it. If they like his talent, bring him into camp, coach him and get him ready to play. He somewhat succeeded in his only stop as opposed to the crap we trotted out in 2015. I prefer we draft someone but if they roll with Bob, get the sucker ready and let's go.

So you're going to ignore the part about how he liked Griffin coming out of Baylor or him signing off on the move just as long as Griffin works hard lol? But either way that's besides the point. Shanahan handled the quarterback situation in Washington TERRIBLE. Whether or not he wanted Griffin.....he spent4 picks in 1 draft on ONE quarterback who MAY be good or may not be.

What makes you think Wentz is a premium talent?

Who is, Colt McCoy

I've never heard this thing of a backup QB being a fit. Can the guy step in and make plays? I couldn't care less about "fit"

Against inferior competition though......

Doesn't matter to me.. You can't teach what he has and all of those guys who played against superior competition at the senior bowl got shown up by him all week in practice.

But its practice though. I'm not against Wentz. I'm just more disappointed by the fact he's now a #2 overall pick in some mock drafts when a few months ago he was a 2nd round pick. I'd much rather take a shot on him in the mid rounds or 20's or later. But this is the NFL. And his stock has rose to the point he's now the best quarterback in this draft. The lack of competition does scare me more than i'm impressed by his tools he has.
