This is old and may have been discussed, but I wasnt around a cpu when it happend.
Anyway, back when Sean Taylor hocked a lugie on Micheal Pitman and Theisman went nuts about how unfair the refs were to Taylor on air, and then it was clear to everyone what Taylor did, Theisman kind of just hushed up and didnt take back what he said.
Well the next day in an interview he was asked about the incident with Taylor and Pitman and he said " something we have to look into is if Sean Taylor is a guy who spits when he talks, like Cowher". The guys doing the interview starting laughing, but Theisman kept going on about Taylor being a spit talker....he wasnt joking

Now that is pathetic. Does he work for Dan Snyder? He must! I thought all the media hated the Commanders?

I'm not sure how it works. All the media may hate the Commanders, but Theisman obviously has a history with them. The thing is, all Commanders fans hate Theisman! (As a commentator, of course). Irony.

he has said things against the Commanders and in favor of the cowboys (in a game at RFK years ago where aikman fumbles the ball in the end zone, emmitt tries to scoop in up, skins danny copeland falls on it for the winning score). he said there was no question that it should have been ruled an incomplete forward pass by aikman.

he says crazy things for and against the skins.

Whether Joe says good or bad for the skins or Cowboys.

Whether I agree with him or disagree with him on any topic.

Joe is, and always will be, a tool...with an annoying voice. :laugh1:

Ignorant, bigoted homers with type-A personalities like Theisman drain my enthusiasm for football. Whatever happened to people like Bob Lilly, Roger Stauback, Frank Gifford, Rayfield Wright and Herschell Walker? People who were the best and accepted their talent with self dignity and respect for others? They didn't need to create controversy in order to call attention to themselves, their play did that and they respected their competitors. Little brother, Joe, has a lot to learn.

The History of Theisman and Washington is an interesting one. I believe Theisman came to Washington in like 74, 75 something like that. When he came to the Skins, the fans didn't like him at all. They liked Jurgensen and Billy Kilmer much better then Theisman. It was not till much later that he was accepted. Don't know I can even say he was loved at any point in his career by the fans. Had he not won a championship, I think he would have been hated for all time by Washington.

Pretty easy to see why IMO. I have no love for the guy. I didn't think he was all that great as a QB. Decent, not great. I never liked him as a player at ND and I think he's terrible as a sports commentator.

Just not much about his career I can look back on and say, "That was exceptional." JMO.

What is sad is that this place needs to be renamed "Commanders Zone".

Every time I load the page, there's a new Commander thread up.

is he a bigot? somebody fill me in.

He did use several "questionable" terms to describe black people and, namely, Lawrence Taylor in an interview about his injury several years after it happened. As I recall, he called Taylor a "monkey" who's only place in this game was to "take players out with dirty hits".

There are many kinds of bigots, racism isn't the only form of bigotry. I am not accusing him of racism, only of being bigoted in favor of one team and not at all open-minded or objective in his discussions about it. Perhaps my using the terms bigot and homer in the same sentence was redundant.

In all fairness, in my opinion, he was a good QB in the Tarkington/Staubach mold but not nearly as good as either one, certainly not a Hall of Famer in my book.

How is calling someone a monkey racist? I've heard guys called a 'big dumb ox' before. I've heard people called 'little weasels'. Is that racist? Just because you call a human being an animal doesn't mean you're racist. (For the record, I absolutely LOATHE Theisman. I won't throw him under the bus for something he doesn't deserve, though)

I would crush Theisman if I could. He is abnoxious.

This is a guy who changed the pronounciation of his name from "Theesman" to "Thighsman" because he was in the running for the Heisman Trophy while at ND.

I'm not sure I believe this at all!

Why don't you go to ES and make a poll, asking

"Do you like Joe Thiesman(sp) as an NFL commentator?

Yes

No

Then bring back a "link" and prove this statement...because I don't buy it!

I could be wrong, but, so could you...
