But not many of those get the Marinelli punch.

And he got a smile from Stephen Jones.

HOW DARE THEY?

I bet Rod still likes Ivie but he likes Price and Ash better. Ivie is probably at least a year or so away.

That's fair. But how many get that sort of cheerleading from their coordinator when they are drafted? Probably not many.

Who cares?

And I think you're wrong. I see assistant coaches celebrating a player being drafted all of the time. Like Derek Dooley celebrating Devin Street being drafted. Or Mike Pope celebrating us drafting Geoff Swaim.

But in the end, who cares if a coach is excited about a player that the team drafted?

That has always been the issue though.

Back in the Campo years, you saw positional coaches with huge input.

And let's be honest, the decision to hire Rob Ryan and his preferences really set us back.

But there is the problem with this organization.

We just seem to have a real decision maker who knows talent evaluation.

Makes things kind of hard.
A 7th rounder didn't make the team
I'm shocked

He gave up on a draft pick. His draft pick.

All I take out of this is that Marinelli's DL evaluations are simple plug ins.

He basically wants chess pieces to be sly.

No reason to upgrade talent overall. Get this one little Golden Cock that just makes your system hum.

It was not long ago that seventh rounders making the team meant we drafted well.

I guess it only applies when it is feel good.

When was the last time you saw a coach show anger or sadness over a pick? Especially a 7th rounder?

Here's a look at the Patriots drafts over the years:

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nwe/draft.htm

Outside of Edelman and Matt Cassel, virtually none of their 7th rounders ever played in the NFL.

Here's the Pittsburgh Steelers drafts:

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/pit/draft.htm

The only player worth mentioning that was a 7th round pick was Brett Keisel.

Dallas has had more success with 7th rounders than either team:

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/dal/draft.htm

Although it's not exactly great with those players being Geoff Swaim, Sean Lissemore, Alan Ball, Pat McQuistan, Jay Ratliff, Patrick Crayton and Jacques Reeves.

In fact, that's why Belichick changed up his draft strategy...getting away from 7th rounders because they simply don't pan out.

That's different than cheer leading which is what I was talking about. Let's not change the subject to something else and stay on track.

Isnt the moral to the story: If most draft services have you listed as a UDFA there are probably several reasons why, and that is what you probably are. The reality being there is little difference between a 7th rounder and a UDFA, and for every Jay Ratliff there are 20 Joey Iveys.

Maybe he cheered like that for every single pick we've made, just not on camera.

It's true that they seldom pan out. But one Jay Ratliff adds a lot to your roster if you can get one.

Not many 4th round players make an impact either. But Dak says hello.

It's possible, but doubtful. That's a cheer for the ages. He should have added a high kick though.

I do. That's why I started the thread about it. Lol. I don't think Marinelli is all that and a bag of chips anymore. I don't know that he has lost it, but im willing to consider it.

Its pretty hard to believe after all the cheer leading Marinelli did for the Ivey selection during the draft he is absent from the 53---and the practice squad.

It's actually good to know that no matter how coaches feel about a player, if they aren't producing, then they go

Just goes with my theory that Marinelli is a guy who prefers the under talented try hard types and considering we don't have talent evaluators heading our personnel, the feedback they get from their coordinator probably goes a long way toward the state of our defense all these years.

I'd fire him yesterday.

I've kinda thought something along these lines myself for awhile. I think he's a great assistant chef, just needs someone to buy the right ingredients for him. Linehan is similar, great assistant chef and can buy the ingredients, just needs someone to create the recipes.

If that makes sense. Lol it does in my head.

It is actually the opposite of what you have posted here. Linehan and Marinelli aren't good at picking the groceries, but they are good at getting the best out of what they have.
