This is silly. Low probability picks have a low hit rate. This is not news. DAL has done a better job than most developing players through the draft in recent years. That's no longer disputable by anybody with a lick of sense or without a silly agenda.

Missing on an individual 7th round pick doesn't mean anything and is not a sign of anything. And pretending Will McClay has to bat 1000 to deserve his reputation makes no sense whatsoever.

I do. That's why I started the thread about it. Lol. I don't think Marinelli is all that and a bag of chips anymore. I don't know that he has lost it, but im willing to consider it.

You would make a better argument if you weren't worried about a 7th round pick.

You think they went off their board to take Ivie?

Much more likely he was on their board, Rod was happy to have him, and then he went the way of most NFL roster longshots.
I mean, they admitted they looked at Noah Brown due to Zeke vouching for him.

It probably went something like this:

:::::War Room 2017, 7th Round::::

Jerry: "Alright boys we're not done having fun just yet. Who hasn't had a turn yet?"

::::Rod Marinelli raises hand::::

Jerry: "Alright, you get the first 7th rounder. I think everyone's had a pick now."

ORIkbpl.gif

Jerry: "Dooley put your hand down, you got Switzer in the 4th. Let's let a player choose next."

:::::calls Ezekiel Elliott::::

That's fair. But how many get that sort of cheerleading from their coordinator when they are drafted? Probably not many.
What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

Sure, we've hit on most of our first rounders, but we'll never take the next step as until we have equal success in the 7th.

Who cares?

And I think you're wrong. I see assistant coaches celebrating a player being drafted all of the time. Like Derek Dooley celebrating Devin Street being drafted. Or Mike Pope celebrating us drafting Geoff Swaim.

But in the end, who cares if a coach is excited about a player that the team drafted.

Man, I remember Dooley drooling over Street. It was pathetic... smh

To be fair, it looked like Street would be a great possession receiver from his college tape.

Sadly, he didn't have it mentally at all. Completely different player in the NFL.

I'll agree that he had potential as a 5th rounder to be good, not great. But yes, I see your point.
He looked like a deer staring into headlights with Dallas.

That's different than cheer leading which is what I was talking about. Let's not change the subject to something else and stay on track.

Same subject, you just don't understand.

Marinelli does this for all defensive picks. Whether a coach shows emotion is something that obviously bothers you. But that's you, not the coach.

They missed on Ivie and Carroll but they hit the bullseye on UDFA Lewis Neal! That's impressive.

The top 100 picks for Marinelli on the DL have been DLaw, Gregory, Collins, and Taco. The only bust is Gregory and you cannot put Gregory's need for marijuana on his coach.

Taco has been getting better and better as time goes by yet you see people judging the coaches because a 7th round pick failed. Collins is a beast. DLaw looks really good out there now that he is healthy.

It's typical sophistry. You already decide Marinelli is not a good coach so you bias for failure and ignore success. If you want to go around being wrong a lot that is a good approach to have.

He whiffed on a 7th round pick, big deal. Look at all the teams whiffing on 1st round picks.

*looks over at Byron Jones and wonders about glass houses*

Kidding!

I am actually surprised they didn't see enough from Ivie to warrant putting him on the practice squad. 7th rounder or not, they seemed excited about him and I'm not sure how a few preseason games someone completely killed the talent they saw on tape over years.

The guy was never even a starter, so they went out there a bit in terms of projection. Teams whiff on 7th rounders, but it's still a resource we could have spent on a better projected guy or traded for a vet.

BTW, it is "Ivie".

I tried to play along and hope someone corrected this offensive error, but I could not control myself any more.

He probably loved the guy on tape while in college. Means zilch 5 months later when you've had the chance to watch him up close against NFL caliber talent in practice and preseason games.

Looks like a Price is a bigger and better version of what they hoped Ivie could be.

All of them do. 7th rounders are taken serious. Sure they end up not making the team but you are looking to find a steal. They were also extremely excited when they got Xavier Woods as well.
