Jenkins, though, risked plunging down draft boards after ballooning to 370 pounds during the SEC Championship against Alabama. The former Georgia defensive tackle has responded with an intense condition program over the last several months that helped him shed nearly 40 pounds. He is now reportedly down to 332, according to Pro Football Talk.

“When you're in the moment, you don't want the negative feedback,” Jenkins told the Macon Telegraph. “The program stuck behind me (and) kept saying I was 354, when in reality I was 370.”

When you're that big, it's relatively easy to lose the first 10 or 15 lbs, maybe even 20. But 40? We know the Cowboys are on the lookout for that 1 Tech, wouldn't be surprised if he's back on our radar if this is true.

Yeah he is very interesting. There aren't too many teams looking for NT's or guys like him and the ones that are most likely will draft Hankins, J.Williams, B.Willams. He would be a solid target for me in the 3rd round if we go OG/S in the first two rounds.

I wouldn't want him, yeah he lose 40 pounds for the draft and to get quicker, but after he gets paid he will gain the weight right back. He had this issue at Georgia.

So he could lose the weight when it came to impacting his wallet... but when it only would have helped his college team win games, it wasn't worth cutting back at the dinner table?

That doesn't sound too good to me man.

Really like what I've seen of Jenkins. I think the talent is there. Just like Dez, you're either in the camp that is willing to bank on him " getting it" or not. I would bank on it. I'd like to have at least one DT over 300 to fall back on when we change schemes again in 2 years.

Vince Wilfork did the same thing before his draft year, I think it was 2004. I think he got all the way down into the 320s at that time and people marvelled at his quickness. Now fastforward to his NFL career and he ballooned back up to the 370s but he has remained a good player.

What I would take from Jenkins at this point is that you have to judge him based on how he played when his weight was elevated because that is probably what you are going to get during his career for the most part. This kind of motivation right before the draft is not going to last so it is too early to tell if he has been able to turn around his eating and workout habits. We won't know that for another couple years so we can't let this influence our thinking of him as a football player.

So the question is what was he worth when he played at 350-370 pounds? If it was just worth a 3rd rounder then that's where you put him on your draft board if you think he is draftable.

In all honesty, NT is one position where you probably can afford to be a bit overweight. However, Kiffen always seemed to prefer quick players so he may not fit in with what he wants. It is a shame about Brent because he would have been the prototypical 1-tech for the Kiffen defense. I still hope he puts his life back together and comes back to play for us and put money aside for Brown's child's future.

Yeah, seriously. :laugh2:

He might be a good player eventually, but you can't expect him to be quick or to stay in the low 300's. If you want a fat guy then he's your man. For Kiffin's scheme, he probably would be just too big and slow, but that is for Monte to decide.

Agree 100%... including the Brent part.

Jenkins could be a nice player for 10 years or eat his way out of the league in 3 years. I got a feeling if Richardson isnt there at 18 Syl Williams and Short could be fall backs. Williams was on NFLN in studio about a month came off really well and looked enormous but not fat.

We can pull an old JJ move. Have people sit outside his home and when third round comes knock on his door and present him with a 4 yr contract laden with incentive and penalties. He can may more money or less completely depending on his performance. If his agent and him say no....just let him slide.
