Owner Jimmy Haslam said Monday that the team told Manziel to act "like a backup quarterback," per ESPN.com.

"We were frank with (Manziel) on Friday that's the expectation, you're the backup quarterback," Haslam said while speaking at a Pro Football Hall of Fame luncheon in Canton, Ohio, per The Plain Dealer. "This is a hard-working, blue-collar town, this isn't Hollywood. We want you to come in and go to work."

The Browns open rookie minicamp Saturday, with organized team activities to follow next week. Haslam said the team plans to begin with Brian Hoyer as the starting quarterback.

"It's his job to lose," Haslam said of Hoyer.

You mean he can't do his off field work online anymore? Don't they know he just comes in for practice and games?

Nothing like a little negative reinforcement for the public to get things started off. Truck stop psychology 101.

There's going to be just as much pressure on Johnny to do well as there will be for the Browns to start him as QB. It's not like all those new season ticket holders forked over the cash because they learned that Hoyer was going to be the starting QB.

I am not a fan of Manziel but we cannot deny that the guy is talented and has overcome the odds at every stage of his career

If he truly goes to work I have no doubt be can be successful

Will he? That is the question

That Owner, who forced the GM to trade up and draft Manziel, will make sure he plays this season whether Hoyer looks like the second coming of Brady or not.

So is Texas A&M Hollywood where Manziel played?

yeah, in a way. He was treated like the biggest star in the world, got away with whatever he wanted and didn't have to go on campus except for practice and games. The guy thinks he's untouchable because he was in College Station.

Manziel received a career death sentence when he was drafted by the Browns. Cleveland is a QB killer:

He called them and said draft me now just cause he wanted to go in first round. I would have been ok if picked in 2nd round by a better team.

Other than at QB, it can be honestly debated that they're starting 22 are better than Dallas'.
Subtracting Gordon will hurt though.

They have a strong 22 just big questions at QB which has held that team back since re-inception
