Don't really know who he is, but apparently he's dead after battling Stage 4 multiple Myeloma. Apparently (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lam_Jones), he did play for the team in 1987, but I put this in this because the majority of his career was with the Jets. However, once a Cowboys player, always a Cowboys player. So, if the mods would like to move this to the regular board, then that is perfectly fine. Just wanted to put this here.

Sad day.

We played Lampassas back when I was in HS. That's where Johnny's nickname came from, BTW. We never came close to catching him!!!! They beat us like 48-6 or something like that.

When Johnny was at UT, there were multiple Johnny Jones's. Johnny Lam Jones, Johnny Ham Jones and I think there was even another one.

RIP.

Being a New Yorker I remember him being a very surprising 1st round pick by the Jets, in the days where all you had was newspapers, many years before thousands of hours of tv coverage for months before the draft

There were 2 players at UT back in the seventies named Johnny Jones.

One was from Lampasas and one was from Hamilton. Thus Johnny Lam Jones and Johnny Ham Jones.

They both overlapped with the time the Earl Campbell was there.

Lam was a RB then WR.

Ham as a FB/RB.

Lam was fast and was drafted #2 overall by the Jets.

IIRC he (Lam) was super fast but not very good catching the ball.

Ah, that explains the nicknames.
