Scouting director Tom Ciskowski remains in charge of the draft board, although rising personnel star Will McClay is in the mix.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Monday at the Senior Bowl that McClay deserves credit for bringing in the “street” players the Cowboys had to use during the season because of injury.

“Will did a great job of bringing in players throughout the year, which is really zeroing in on a lot of his responsibility,” Jones said. “And he did a great job of evaluating free agents, evaluating players that are out there.

“But as we look at the draft, not necessarily free agency, but as we look at the draft, this would be a big emphasis and is the culmination of a lot of work of these drafts and the head of our scouting, Tom Ciskowski.”

So does that mean McClay is still in charge of the draft, just not putting together the draft board?

I really don't care who is in charge of the board. I just hope they leak the draft board after the draft so we fans have a lot more to talk about. And I wish all teams would release their draft boards after it is over.

Seems like they may have given McClay a title promotion but the roles are essentially the same.

In view of the fact that several teams had an interest in McClay, the promotion he got would likely seem to be one that was spurred onward to keep him in tow. Evidently, Jerry wanted to make it clear to set things straight, seeing as how so many of the fans and media alike read between the lines and interpreted it as a possible demotion for Ciskowski. Probably not so, but the good news is that McClay still works for the Cowboys.

It seems to me like Jerry is being very clear that Ciskowski will be in charge of putting the board together. It would be a big time sign of disrespect to Ciskowski if McClay took over that part of Ciskowski's duties.

However, as we've seen, when it comes time to actually make the picks - Jerry isn't going to just follow the board. I suspect that while Ciskowski will still have ultimate control of the board, McClay will have a bigger voice in the draft room.

I think you're exactly right.
**rant underway**
The reporting about this team for the past several years has been abysmal.
They shamelessly throw gunk against the wall and pray it sticks.
And then get away with it after they're wrong without penalty, without remorse. And we want to talk about accountability on a football team...
It makes me angry because this is the kind of journalism we get fed on all levels now.
You can't believe anything at face value, although it's been that way far longer than I've been alive, it's truly sad to witness.
Oh how I miss Walter Kronkite.

OK- mini-rant over.

Well one thing I am absolutely happy about is that there are no mixed messages coming out of Valley Ranch. Giving fans, players, potential new-hires and player acquisitions the idea that things aren't very organized might send a bad signal. Oh, wait a minute... what?

Whoever wanted Escobar in the 2nd should be fired.

Highest rated guy on our board at the time. You don't draft or reach for guys with 3rd round grades in the 2nd round. We've debated this for the last 9 months.

That's the problem: Gavin Escobar was rated higher than Eddie Lacy, LeVeon Bell, Bennie Logan and Larry Warford

Why is that a problem? It wasn't just us lots of other teams did also. I suppose it was a Cowboys problem they didn't have Tom Brady rated higher also? No lots of other teams didn't either. The draft is an inexact science.
