I have taken a stand on Brent. I think he revoked his right to play in this league. Others have a differing point of view.

I heard today Jerry said he sees the contrition in this man. Jerry would know more than me.

Fisher said he thinks Jerry and the Cowboys have a good case to suggest Brent sat out a year. That this could sway Goodell in allowing him to come back soon.

While I think Fisher is somewhat like Spagnola, he will not bite the hand that feeds him. He knows more than me.

So, it appears Brent may get another shot at pro ball.

My questions are this. How good was this guy before he murdered his friend by a very poor decision? Discount his lay-off, just what was his ceiling and where was he in relationship to that ceiling?

Can he makes this squad?

If he's got a little somethin' somethin', what can this team expect this year?

It's not my place to judge him, so I will let it go. But this team has stuck with him to a degree, and it appears there is a reason.

I'm curious to know what that is.

Yeah, putting aside the murder question (wear your seat belts when getting in a car with a drunk driver, everybody), I think Brent was a candidate for the starting 1 tech role before his time off. He was a better player than Hayden, anyway, and was lining up for a decent payday before his horrible judgement changed everything.

I've always thought he'd be reinstated and back in Dallas, and it looks like we're on track for that. It's hard to say, but I think he probably makes this roster and pushes for some snaps in the defensive rotation.

I can see the reference point of a soldier and a family man...Jerry has many more burdens in strong support of both, sport, and then of his own corporation as well.

To his credit, Jerry has toed a hard and strong line in support of his employees and their individual good. He does't shy away from problems, when the outcome improves the sport that he fields.

The final decision will depend first, upon Goodell's stance and how Josh Brent would fit in and add to today's team. Those will be his source of stance on this issue.

There are tough choices in life, but the drama at one's own home isn't the market place, where benefits of effect has a strong hold on process. Not abandonment of ethics or morales, but placing human values in perspective, effectively...that's as good as it gets in the environment of a capitalist country. Not all bad as well.

I would think Brent's capabilities would be seriously compromised after spending a significant amount of time without the benefit of constant conditioning to remain in football shape. As it was before the incident ever occurred, he wasn't too solidly immersed within the Cowboys' rotation to be considered a shoe-in to be anything more than a backup. It's highly conceivable that his potential roster status might very well be considered seriously in doubt at this point in time. I think his chances of making this squad depend solely upon how he manages to fare against the youngsters currently working within the system. It'll be a tough transition to compete on an equal basis with them, even though he'd have an edge in experience. I think it could go 50-50, either way.

How pathetically desperate would we have to bring Brent back on our team? I'm sure if it happens it will end badly.

In regards to the last time I saw Brent play, it looked like the light switch was beginning to turn on for him. I don't know if he can comeback and simply resume in spite of everything that has happened.

Brent was beginning to become a solid player. Not flashy, but not crappy. Solid.

I'm sure this has set him back, ala Demetrius Underwood.

He has been out of football for a while. But I don't think there's any harm in having him come to camp to see if he can make the team. If he's far and away a better player, and has the support of the team and staff, then he should get a chance.

I don't know that this fan wouldn't favor him right now, over what started at the 1 tackle last season.

It would be a journey, although...

never saw anything in his football ability worth all this

Back when Stephen Bowen was still on the roster, Brent was strong and a force in rushing. He was physically active, and I made a mental note on his play...way back then. Whether he can regain that bull in a closet level again, would be the question.

I'm somewhat divided on this. Brent went to Jerry Brown's family first and asked for their blessing if he could back to playing football. They said yes, and now is going through the motions to un-retire. I think he should get a second chance but I still don't know if it should be with Dallas.

Tough call, but the more I think about it the more I lean that he should play with Dallas because I'm sure that what Jerry Brown would want for his best friend.

Technically it doesn't require it, but it requires some kind of knowing or willful mens rea.

Still, Josh Brent didn't commit murder. You have spotted the media-style argument for sensationalism like a smart person should.

I wouldn't call it murder either.

But the guy did drive drunk, which he knows most certainly can raise the chances that he has an accident and kills someone. He also got drunk, which was obviously done knowingly, so lets not pretend like the guy just did something that he didn't realize had any chance of happening.

And what's the wrong message?...maybe it sends a message, saying people deserve chances, if they paid their debt, show they changed.

Third time is a charm?

1st time was the DUI his senior year in college
2nd time was the DUI / Manslaughter of his teammate
2.5nd time was getting busted for drugs (was it once or twice?) while awaiting for a trial that would decide the rest of his life?

In my world I live in he'd be out of chances.

No thanks. If we have not found someone with equal ability yet, and fear we can not in the short future...maybe we should look at our scouting department.

In other words his talent was not so good to outweigh the dumb crap he has done off the field and not just the death of his teammate from drinking and driving but the other stuff he done while he was on probation.

His talent is just not good enough to worry about all of that crap IMO.

I'm torn on this. I don't want him here, but I do understand that part of his parole requires employment, and let's be honest, what else is he going to do?

He was a pretty productive, run-stuffing nose guard before all this. His arrow was pointing up as a player.

I think he should be allowed to play, but I think it should be somewhere else. I fully realize Jerry would gladly take him back. He can play, which is why Jerry has been so supportive.

There is a question remaining about what kind of shape he's in and if he could return to form.

Exactly.

This isn't the first time he's done something stupid and gotten into trouble.

I am all for second chances. If you smoke weed and get caught you deserve a second chance.

If you get drunk and get arrested for walking around in public then you deserve a second chance.

If you drive while drunk and you kill someone, regardless of the fact that you didn't intend for that to happen, then no you don't deserve a second chance in the NFL. You've given that right away when you decided that you were superman and could drive not only while drunk but at excessive speeds, thus breaking the law multiple times.
