You seriously have no idea what you're talking about. Especially with the Ray Rice situation just happening.
Here's a timeline of events:
Prosecutors charged BOTH Rice and Palmer for simple assault. He admitted to striking her and she admitted to spitting in his direction.
Then the prosecutors saw the elevator tape and DROPPED the charges on Palmer and RAISED the charges on Rice to aggravated assault which is a felony.
It wasn't until Palmer pleaded with the prosecutor and told the prosecutor they were getting married anyway that the gave Rice probation and ordered him to take part in a program to deal with his violence and anger issues.
Danny Heatley got into a car and was driving on a road in Atlanta at speeds nearing 100 mph with his friend Dan Snyder in the passenger seat. The road in question is one you shouldn't drive more than 50 mph (been on that road many times, it's right next to a mall and residential area).
Ferrari crashes and kills Snyder. Snyder's family begs the court to go light on Heatley because they have forgiven him and Heatley gets NO jail time. He gets probation and is ordered to do hours of speeches to kids on the dangers of speeding.

Again . . . the law rarely takes a family's feelings into account. In Brent's case and in this . . . Heately case, it did. Hence, lessened penalties.
So two families forgave and two speed racers benefitted. Good for them.
So you ax the law to extend that type off grace to all? Yes, that is a world I also want to live in. A world of forgiveness for all.
Are you satisfied, counselor? I request a break for lunch because my egg and mustard sandwich won't be good forever.
Good luck on your burgeoning amateur law career . You have a keen sense of mitigating schtuff, counselor. And I forgive you too for your aggressive defense of speeders.
