Somebody saw that tape in the league's office. And somebody got ahold of it. How they got ahold of it, I don't know. But when Mortensen and other reporters have sources from the league that told them verbatim what happened...it was a video that the league had.

YR

I saw that video months ago and wondered how the nfl hadnt seen it ...

It simply is not an easy case to prosecute when the victim does not want the prosecutor to prosecute the attacker who happens to be her husband.

It would have gotten dismissed before it got to trial.

You're basically asking the prosecutor to prosecute a case where the victim is saying that she is not a victim. It's akin to somebody stealing a candy bar from a store and then the store owner saying I don't want you to prosecute him.

The NFL should have at least asked the casino for the tape. And I don't buy that they would have never given the tape to the NFL if they were asked. They would have simply made a copy of the tape, given it to the NFL and kept their own records of the tape.

But not asking the casino for the tape is just another in a long line of arrogance and incompetence from Goodell's office.

How did Chris Mortensen know verbatim what happened on the elevator tape from his sources that were, according to Mortensen, from the league office?

in domestic cases, you do not need the victim to testify or even need a complaint from the victim, especially when there's a video of the incident, open and shut case!

And Peter King who also wrote about this has been back peddling all week from when he wrote about it from a source,,,,so I'll ask again, why didn't the media request the video if it was so easy to get, yet they had to pay some security guard that clearly stole property and gave it to TMZ for money...

That's not the case. I don't know where you get this from.

This case would have likely been dismissed before it could go to trial.

What does that have to do with Mortensen? Mort quoted VERBATIM from a league source that Rice hit her with twice and then as she fell her head hit the railing in the elevator.

And Mortensen isn't backing down (and so are other reporters not named King whose backpeddling has been attacked by Dead-spun quite convincingly).

If we are to believe Mort, how did his source know what exactly happened if his source didn't get the tape.

Lucky guess?

I doubt it.

You see...I don't know what it's like to not be funny.

So that's why I don't get your point.

Pssst! C'mhere. Closer. The point is on my head. Despite that i am always up for manly banter, football analisis and ruminations on the human condition.
Don't fuss too much. Dont get into a lather over small points. Dont worry, be happy.

As for you not knowing what it's like to not be funny, I can vouch for dat.
In my native village in the Balkans you are known as the funny mans and you are celebrated in radio (no TV there yet) and the weekly press. We half a 2-day celebration of your funniness. We call it Rich Mirth festival but not in Englitch.
Yes, you are funny and the world is richer for dat. heh

There is a concept of "Intent". Ray Rice intended to punch her. Josh Brent didn't intend to kill someone.

Josh Brent = Stupid

Ray Rice = Malicious AND Pathetic

Had to fix that for you. Punching a woman, what a tough guy.

it's the law....you can even watch any episode of COPS, it happens all the time, police make the judgement to arrest an individual after seeing visible injures in a domestic dispute..you don't need the victim to lodge a complaint...

... apparently the same league source Peter King had who stated the same thing or he read the complaint in the affidavit from witness statements....those statements were available for month's..the video wasn't!

blame the victim for sticking with her husband and back peddling on her statement of events and that it was a fight, blame the prosecutors for not taking this slam dunk case to trial..how is it Goodell's problem or the NFL's, they punished him for his first offense and as soon as he saw the tape which clearly didn't jive with her interview with Goodell, he then indefinitely suspended him....yet still the media couldn't get a tape of the event from a Casino for 8 month's

Yes, this was not an accident.

I'm sure a lot of domestic violence is some what unintentional but that was an intentional punch in the face. He didn't seem to concerned afterwards either.

If the elevator had opened on another floor he probably would have gotten by with it, but it opened on a main casino floor.

I seriously hope you're kidding.

If that's all you got out of that, and you're going to completely ignore the fact that she came after him because he'd already struck her, then you've got a real serious problem.

Not condoning hitting a women, that's moronic at best. A person (man) can walk away and feel much more vindicated. I'm talking about physical harm coming down on Ray Rice like a giant razor blade of finger nails and bald spots.

I don't think it makes a difference according to the law. In fact, it may work better for Brent because the defense could argue that Brown should have been the one driving since he was sober.

In the situation I presented, I know the facts about the case because the judge is good friends with my dad. They went to high school together and for years he was my dad's attorney before he became a judge.

The victim and the acquaintance of mine that killed him were next door neighbors. The victim's family asked the judge to go light on sentencing because they were friends. And the judge still gave more than what Brent (and the acquaintance never had a previous DUI unlike Brent) simply because in Brent's case Brown got into the car with him and shares some responsibility for doing so.

Don't understand why people discount this. If his own mother is forgiving him and wants him to have a good life....why can't we. Will never make sense to me.

Well, Janay Rice appears to have "forgiven" Ray and everyone is slamming her for it.
