Although I like Kellen Moore OK, he would be an upgrade. ESPN Cleveland does not project him to make the final roster.

Few teams want a QB who didn't go through camp. Unless you are desperate - e.g., your starter is out 6-8 and you are carrying 2 QBs - then you aren't bringing in a different guy

Even with his age he had a 3 to 1 TD to INT ratio last year, while averaging 263 yards per game and a 93.3 QB rating. He was even better in Chicago 3 years ago (yea he sucked for the Bucs in between but who doesn't). He isn't the best QB but is certainly an upgrade over the backups we have now... assuming they might try to do right by him and release him now so we can have him for camp... any chance of that happening?

Josh McCown would surely be an upgrade over the backups we have now. Moore has a rag arm and the others simply aren't ready as yet. I wouldn't be opposed to it in the least. If McCown and Moore were set up to duke it out in TC and the preseason games, I say may the best man win. Like the OP suggests, he's not expected to make the final roster, according to those ''in the know.''

Having an opinion is not "in the know".

How's about if we replace that careless phrase with "those in Cleveland" instead? I think there's a good chance that their "opinions" would be valid.

He'd be an upgrade over what the Cowboys currently have. I'd definitely bring him in to compete for the backup job.

Kellen Moore and Jameill Showers have more time in the Cowboys system and would probably both be more effective at this point than Josh McCown. Heck, I'm not convinced Josh is any better than Dak.

This was just one writer's opinion. Another local says otherwise.

http://www.cleveland.com/pluto/index.ssf/2016/07/cleveland_browns_have_terry_ta_70.html

The Browns don't want Griffin to sustain a injury early in the season. Without McCown available, they'd have to turn to Kessler too soon in his rookie season.

My guess is the only reason they'd trade McCown would be if they received a tremendous offer (in terms of a draft pick), or they suddenly became convinced Davis could do a respectable job.

The Browns have been extremely pleased with McCown's attitude and willingness to mentor Griffin and the other quarterbacks. McCown's salary for this season is $4.4 million. It appears about $1.5 million of that is guaranteed.

It's just my opinion, but in the few practices that I watched, McCown was the best quarterback on the field. He can still play. McCown had a 1-7 record as a starter last season, but not all of that was his fault. His stats were strong: 12 TD passes, 4 interceptions, 93.3 rating. He lost six fumbles.

McCown had a concussion, bruised ribs, and a dislocated shoulder as he missed eight games.

The fact is Griffin and McCown both have significant injury histories. Kessler clearly was No. 3 in the practices, and he still needs work.

Some fans and media people want McCown to start. That makes no sense, given where the team is in terms of trying to find players. Jackson thinks Griffin has a chance to to be an effective starter. They need to put the 26-year-old in position to show if he can revive his career.

They could easily dump Austin Davis as much as McCown.

I would love Austin Davis or McCown over what we have right now. Honestly if Romo goes down, even for like a quarter, I'd rather see Prescott than Moore. I've seen Moore and wasn't impressed. Prescott may be able to win or keep some drives going with his legs.

But yeah I would love Davis or McCown going into camp.

At some point we will see Prescott. Little doubt in my mind.

KMoore should not be on an NFL field again, except as JG's next QB coach.....he does have moxie and I'm sure he has his coachisms down..."RKG.....Process.....Dress code...blahblah blah"

McCown would be a great one year QB2 until Dak gets the speed of the NFL down
