We weren't any better last year.....the idea is to upgrade anywhere and everywhere you can

Matt Hasselback was probably the best backup in the league last year and he was 40

I hear that. But if we're gonna upgrade let's UPGRADE. A Browns castoff at the qb position isn't even worth it atleast Kellen knows the playbook and player tendencies

KMoore had 0 snaps in 4 years for a reason...he can't do the job.....a lot of guys can learn the playbook

I don't think Kellens the long term backup answer I just think he can do equally as well as the other guy at this stage in their careers

Here's a guy who can go .500 if Romo goes down for 4 games.

I would want him all through camp though and I would offer a 7th just to retain him as early as possible to get him acclimated to our system.

I would feel that we have an adequate backup at QB and he is the consummate professional.

I really can't see how McCown would be any better than Matt Cassel was last year if he were to arrive after camp and the preseason. The more time a quarterback spends learning a new playbook and it's terminology the better. If the Cowboys want to make a move with a quarterback, it's best they get him here before they leave for camp. Just my opinion.

Yea we need him before camp if we are going to take him. Hopefully the Browns try to do right by him .

Kellen Moore and Jameill Showers have more time in the Cowboys system and would probably both be more effective at this point than Josh McCown. Heck, I'm not convinced Josh is any better than Dak.

Knowing system did not help Weeden, Orton or Brad Johnson. And they were in same system for years.

Agreed, I dont think Mckown is a major upgrade over Matt Cassel either. Even if we did invest in a quality backup Im not sure we adapt the system enough for them to have success if they did have to play. At this point Im fine rolling with what we have, because outside of having to start 1 or 2 games most teams are sunk if they have to start their backup qb for significant time during the season.

When all is said and done, I think the FO will likely roll with what we currently have in tow with regards to the backup QB situation. Hopefully, if Romo goes down (ugh) it'd be toward the 2nd half of the season when Prescott should be better prepared than earlier. (Even then, I'd be quite surprised if Moore would be bypassed in favor of giving Dak his first start.) No doubt, we'll all be hoping Romo plays every game in 2016.

Yeah but Kellen and Showers are young and Kellen's shown some upside in the time he's played. Kyle Orton didn't want to play football anymore, Brad Johnson was done, and Brandon Weeden was a miss from the day he was drafted.
