In the off-season JJo set a goal of 1700 yards... YIKES. Jason Witten even went on to say go ahead and put him in the pro bowl.

What do ya'll think? Can he get those 86 YPG the rest of the season and get the millenium mark?

No, he doesn't make it. He's hurt, he's splitting carries, and opposing defenses are stacking the line when he's in the game.

With the proper support and no more injuries... Why not. JJ could do whatever he sets his mind to do

Nice thought, but it's not just up to Julius Jones, if it was I am sure he would have done better already.

Like someone else said, he had been hurt and he is splitting carries.

Also, the O-line has not given him or Barber much room to run.

1,000 yds is not what it used to be since they play 16 games now.

Neither Jones nor Witten will go to the probowl this year. They're both good players, but neither will be taking that trip, imo....don't argue with me on Witten. I don't want to hear about last year, about the offense, or anything else. I'm not putting him down, just saying he won't be in the probowl this season.

I'm going to have to agree on that one..neither Jones or Witten sniff the Pro Bowl.

If you want to be blunt, both these guys having not built on their success from last season have severely crimpled the offense this season.

Everybody assumed Jones and Witten would have repeated or expanded their play over last season with all the additions made to the offense with Bledsoe, Rivera and NBIII and Thompson, too. And Price..too.

But whether due to injury like Jones or just not making a concerted effort to involve Witten in the offense more..

..without dramtically increased production from those two players in these next 5 games, playoffs is just a dream IMO.

And when you look at how much these two had the offense built around them as impact players coming into '05 and were counted on as huge tools to control the clock and score inside the RedZone..

..while I wouldn't go so far as to say they have failed in those roles this year..

their lack of production is glaring.

And I have to say..it's inexplicable to me how, last year, Witten, after losing our other TE Campbell early in the year, having Julius Jones out for the first half of the year and Terry Glenn gone early in the season..The OL playing mediocre, etc.

..was still able to have the season he had..with Vinny at QB.

As a team, we have improved the offense with a better QB, healthy WR's as starters and Campbell has played all season so far and the OL should have improved even if Pettitti is a rookie with Riviera at G and Tucker is playing LT instead of RT this year.

That's a whole lot of improvement in players and I'm at a loss to figure out how that has translated into Witten being less effective.

Jones I understand, but not Witten's production.

So Sean Payton and Bledsoe and Witten are going to have to get this straightened out on Sunday and every week we are still in the playoff hunt from here on out if things are going to improve offensively.

We'll see.

I agree with you on JJ, but Witten is up there with Shockey and Crumpler in the NFC. Now if the selection was today, I'd agree Witten would be the odd man out. But keep in mind that there are still five games left and with all the guys who decide they can't play in the Pro Bowl because of some injury, don't be shocked to see Witten slip in again this year as an "Alternate".

Too many good run defenses in the teams we have left to face. Julius doesn't make it this year. Teams are daring Bledsoe to beat them because we haven't protected him well enough.

gonna be tough for jones to hit 1000, as fr witten in the pro bowl he is 4th in rec and only 5 from the lead,4th in yds,3rd in td's,4th in yds per rec. i think unless he does nothing the next 5 games he is a pro bowler

Will be tough with him splitting carries...If MBIII keeps running as hard as he has been (and holds onto the pigskin) I say NO 1000 for JJ.

Realistically, JJ needs a big game to hit 1000. He's over 400 yards away at this point. But a game with 150 or so yards would mean he only has to average 60 or 70 a game in the other 4 to get to 1000.

When you take in to consideration the awful line play this year, you'd have to really give Julius props for getting 1000.

I think he gets it. He'll rip off 150+ in one of the games and only need ~70 per game.

3 examples of missed opportunities for Witten that were not necessarily his fault:
1- Last play of the game vs Oakland when he was open in the endzone but Drew threw to Glenn.
2- TD vs Giants called back due to holding penalty
3- Brainless shovel pass int'd by Philly while Witten was wide open "hot receiver"

How many other instances are there that were not this obvious. IMO Drew needs to get on the same page w/ Witten.

I think it isn't really about being on the same page -- it's more about crap OL play -- Witten has to block more, taking him out of a number of routes -- when he is out on a route, Drew rarely has time to progress through his reads -- so if Witten isn't the primary target, he's not likely to get the ball.

Right now it is premature to say Witten won't be in the ProBowl, especially as an alternate.

Shockey - 48 catches, 7 TD's
Crumpler - 50 catches, 5 TD's
Witten - 49 catches, 3 TD's

It's too early and too close to pass judgement on the TE position IMO.

As for Julius...........fuhgettaboutet.......
