ball! It looks like he has depth perception problems or something. He always stops short of where the ball is going to land, then flails his arms terribly in an attempt to catch it. I think he hears the defenders footsteps and doesn't want to get drilled from behind, but sheeesh, give me a few style points please. Is it me or wasn't he highly regarded as a pass catching RB out of college? :nolook:

No he wasn't a highly regarded pass catching RB out of college. One of the things they wanted to work on, was getting him the ball more through the air, because he DOES have good hands, but hadn't developed as a reciever because he wasn't used in that role in college.

I said it before and will again.
Catching is NOT one of his strong points.
I am pleased that he seems to be improving in that area but he doesn't have natural hands and you will see him drop some easy ones soon.

No he is not a natural receiver. But he has improved and as long as the QB gets it close enough he will usually catch it. Though I have seen him dive and make a catch once or twice; but that negates the reason for catching it- since they want him to take the short pass and run with it. Which they also do not do enough of, as well as not enough draws.

He was not used in the passing game....infact it was a knock against him coming out of college...

I think it is a weakness of his game, but I also think Bledsoe hasn't done a good job of putting the ball near Julius when he does pass to him. A lot of that was due to pressure in the Oakland game.

I watched Jones in College and I felt like he caught the ball fine. He wasn't used very much in the passing game but that doesn't mean he couldn't do it.

I think pass catching is like anything, the more you do it, the better you get at it. I also agree with those who say Bledsoe couldn't throw a short pass consistantly to save his life. He is terrible at this phase of the game.

LOL!!!!!

I guess I just poked holes in my own theory there. Bledsoe's been in this league for 13 years. No amount of practice has seemed to help him with that little dump pass.

I agree 100% on the Bledsoe comments. His short stuff is either gunned too hard or floated, and neither seems to arrive on time in stride with the receiver. Most of the time the receiver has to stop, turn or jump to catch it.

I bet thru 4 games we have lost 75 yards in YAC, because the receiver is having to re-start after adjusting to the poor throw.

Bledsoe still runs a screen better than any QB we've had since....who the hell knows. Of course I can only judge it on the one screen pass I have seen completed with success this year, which is one more then the last few years.

I think that was a fluke. Bledsoe was really trying to throw it away and it slipped right into Jones' hands. :D

it looks like his arms are to big to lift over his head to catch the ball just watch him it looks like he's so muscular that he cant even lift his arm past his shoulders to catch the ball.

I saw Jones catch a ball that was behind him and high against SF, I believe, for a first. That was a nice catch for anybody. I think you gotta give the guy time to develope that phase of his game. Emmitt didn't learn this until a few years into the league either.
