Julius not the gamebreaker of last year?

I read a thread on another board, some guy saying Julius is laboring when he runs, is stiff, not as quick, shifty or elusive as he was last year, and blames it on weight gain and musculature. But I don't see that, at all. I sawe Juilius running hard against two of the best run defenses in the league. I think we'll see Julius gashing lesser defenses in the future, starting next week.

Does anyone else share this guy's opinion?

nyet.

p.s. for future reference, replies must be at least 5 characters, including punctuation, i.e. "no" is not sufficient...

You need some space to put on his moves. Thus far, Julius has not been able to break free past the line of scrimmage because the blocking has not been there. He is exploding into the hole and maximizing what he can get on each run. I'm sure he'll start breaking some big runs before too long.

It would probably also help if Payton remembered to call the lead draw occasionally. I think our game plan has been conservative so far and BP has been trying to avoid negative plays and thus the lack of draws. Hopefully things will open up a bit as we move through the season.

Bull, I saw Julius do some great moves in SDG, now as far as monday, he only had 57 yards agianst the skins last year, don't get jumpy.

Oh, I'm not jumpy. I agree with you. (Re-read my post.) There were just a few people saying JJ is a different runner and I just haven't seen it.

I dont know if you have looked around the league but most rb's are being stuffed by dlines. Examples, and dont quote me;

Curtis Martin= 16-52,31-72[2.7]

Mcallister= 22-62, 18-45[2.7]

Portis= 25-60, 19-50[2.5]

Dillion= 22-62, 9-22[2.8]

KJones= 25-82, 8-22[3.2]

Tomilson= 19-71, 16-51[3.8]

Jones= 26-93, 22-81[3.8]

Lewis= 17-41, 10-9[1.8]

Only Caddillac, Alexander, Parker and the Edge are having standout seasons. Julius has just faced two excellent run defenses. When we play Sf, Rams, Denver, and Detriot he should have monster days. Hes on pace for about 1300 yards now but I expect 1500 and 10 when its all said and done.

Two very tough defenses vs. the run. Not to mention, teams are more familiar with him than they were last season. They seem more apt to gameplan for our offense as it centers around Jules.

Something to remember: JJ has outperformed both Clinton Portis and LaDainian Tomlinson head-to-head.

Yep. He's run for the sixth most yards in the league so far, and that's against last year's #2 and #3 defenses against the run.

"Weight gain"? Parcells had Julius LOSE weight for this season.

Julius has done very well against two of the toughest run defenses we'll face this season -- and that's with his two longest runs both being called back.

yea...like most of u guys said, we played defenses that are good against the run. If you look back at premeir (sp?) backs stats from last year for every game, u will c that most of them put up big numbers like 6 yards a carry against weak Ds, then when you look at the Ds they played with that were good against the run most of them are only averaging 2.5 yards to 3 yards usually...just w8, he will start dominating

JJ has had quite a few long runs called back by penalties, especially in the SD game where they had like 5 flags in a row.

Against the Chargers he played good.

Against the skins he didnt have same succes but that could be because we didnt use a FB.We all know TE dont open holes like a FB does.

He is fine. It's hard to break 100+ when you are facing some of the better run defenses in the league.

JJ is the third leading rusher in the NFC?

He's fine and will be putting up bigger numbers over the next two weeks, trust me!
