Again for those who do not know or listen: WE ARE the LOWEST PAID defense in all of football folks!! All of football! And that's with a terrible contract to Crawford......

So we should pay them more? I don't understand.

That is like expecting a better cheeseburger because you are paying more to the inept kid making it.

Given the number of DCs that we have gone through in the past decade I don't know what the answer is. We have had multiple guys with multiple styles and our defense has stunk with all of them.

In regards to our current scheme it seems to work when we get a pass rush but without it (like today) our playing 10 yards off the ball is just ridiculously bad.

No we should get players in FA. Spend some money....but we can't because of Romo, Dez, Witt, Tfred, Smith...and lots of bad contracts.......

Are you telling me Vernon, Snacks Harrison, Calais Campbell, etc etc wouldn't make us better???

We could spend all we wanted in free agency but if they were placed in Rod Marinelli's scheme, it would not matter.

I have chuckled for years at those who praise Marinelli. His success in TB was a product of great players (Sapp, Lynch, Rice). His success here in 2016 and 2014 was the result of a dominant running game that kept the D rested and usually allowed it to play with a lead against one dimensional offenses... but his scheme is trash. And we cannot win with it. Bend but do not break makes the players play tentative. And then, on money third downs, they really are not ready to be aggressive. Just take a look at the success of Carr and Claiborne in different systems. It's not the players, it's the coach and the system... We need some aggression. We need to blitz, not just one guy but three. Not the same four man rush and DE-DT stunt. We need to dictate, not be dictated to... Everyone blaming Dak is missing the real problem.

The same scheme that was #1 in NFL in rush defense last year and hadn't allowed a 100 yard rusher in like 2 years?? Look I'm not in love with the scheme but we don't ever give him anything worth a damn. Maybe it's his fault, but maybe not.

I don't care what the statistics say.

Marinelli has ultimate accountability.

For all the energy spent lauding him for doing more with less, the simple fact remains that his schemes are disgustingly simple and incapable of imposing our will on any competent offense.

Smoke and mirrors only works for so long.

This defense is just too young. You guys thought replacing the secondary last year that anyone could do what they did. You guys thought it couldn't get any worse. It can.

It's a young team. A young defense. They are going to struggle. Be patient with it. There's some nice players out ther with potential.

That's true. But remember when we are all excited with Rob Ryan's amoeba defense and blitzes as well? How did that turn out? The players weren't good enough and that's the real problem Alex! I mean what's wrong with allowing a team to score on 9 possessions when 7 of those were just field goals! Lol

The defense isn't changing this season. The offense IMO is the concern right now. We have a 17 million dollar WR that sucks.

Not quite sure I understand what you are getting at.

On one hand you state the problem is the talent, then you say that the scheme isn't changing this season.

Shocker, the talent is not changing much more either.

My point is we have what we have for this season because Stephen is a cheapskate and all the backloaded contracts we've done, always thinking he's the smartest dude in the room. We have no choice but to hope the rooks and Smith gets better.

All of our money is on the offense and we shouldn't have any problem there. But we do right now. A big problem! Last week it looked like Zona might score 50, but Marinelli made a change and it worked. Our OC and HC don't even have any philosophy or any adjustments. Wade took them to school.

We have neither the talent nor a quality defensive scheme.
As far as talent, we have to spend in FA next offseason. I think you have to franchise Lawrence if he stays healthy and produces like he is. Plus you have to think about the weakside DE spot. I don't believe we have a viable candidate in house for that spot. Taco should develop and may become a pretty good player, but he seems to be better suited for the strongside. If cap permits (which i believe it would, and there are a few big contract players we can release to free up cap space if needed), then i would try to target somebody like an Ezekiel Asnah, DE from Detroit. A dude that can dominate from that side.
Lastly, our philosophy about the 1T sucks. We need a bigger body in there. Bring me the beef!
We need a 325lb big fatty at the NT to keep the LBs clean. Right now, it with the exception of mayowa it seems like every DL on the roster is either best suited to play the 3T or the strongside DE, but pretty much none of them besides Lawrence, Maliek and kinda Crawford are better than average. No true weakside rusher, and no true NT.

Marinelli us a heck of a coach. The talent sucks. It's a wonder he gets these clowns to stop anyone. This game was lost the moment Sean lee was a scratch.

We don’t have the players. The most important positions in cover 2 are safeties, and a RDE. We have neither.

And when Wade was here we couldn't cover the middle of the field. Parcels 34 was too conservative. Zim and The Poodle weren't agressive enough and the corners played 10 yards off the ball. On and on......people are missing the issue. Yes we have drafted defense, but always as an afterthought.

The Poodle...good one

No, we don't have one. It is hope whatever illusion works to get them off the field.

Or wait for a mistake.
