Everyone wants the shiney cools toys from the draft. Kwity Paye 2 sacks this season,Jayson Oweh 0 sacks this season, Zac Wilson and his upside,Jamarr Chase,Patrick Surtain,Caleb Farley,Trade up for Penei Sewll,Gregory Rousseau,Micah Parsons........That's all great but if our QB is constantly on his back from no Left Tackle worth a darn it will not matter.

Alex Leatherwood a 4 year starter. Has played OG & OT and anywhere on the O- line except Center. Just in practice alone look at the now Pro Players or Future Pros he faced. DaRon Payne,Quinnen Williams,John Allen,Jarran Reed,Davlin Tomlinson,Dylan Moses,CJ Mosely,Reggie Ragland,Chris Barmore,A'Shawn Robinson,Terrell Lewis,Anfernee Jennings, Raekwon Davis,Reuben Foster,, Issiah Buggs......Then after practice you have the SEC the past 4 years competition and National Title Games.

Stay at #8 and Draft Solid

Performance over Potential..

Surtain and Farley are out of reach now. I'm thinking Kyle Pitts.

Leatherwood has played on the Big Stage in college football and coming to Dallas should not phase him like others it could with the big lights. Leatherwood is a very Sound pick. I don't know why he gets no love from Draftniks. The only way I think is everyone has seen him vs all the fresh faces now appearing. Well just like Trevor Lawrence has been a key to Clemson for 4 years. Leatherwood has been playing all 4 years in the arguably the toughest Conference. He to me is a A+ pick. Covers all the questions and anxiety over both our OTs. Tyron Smith hasn't played a full season in about 4 or 5 years ago. Lael Collins had Hip Surgery where they had very little cartilage to play with. Do you think Collins is going to be the same player? Everyone is in love with Penei Sewell. Were the guys in his Oregon practices like the Bama lists I gave above? How about facing guys like Myle Garrett,Derrick Brown,Jason Allen,K' Lavion Chaissen in the SEC? Let them talk about Sewell I want Leatherwood. At #11 in the Draft we still have a chance to get him.

FLORIDA has good athletes and Bama LEFT TACKLE #70 doesn't skip a beat.

People must be waking up about taking a TE top 5! As a Florida guy I would love Pitts
I like pitts but we have too many offensive weapons to justify a first round pick on a TE who may get 3-4 targets a game
With our WR’s any decent TE will be open all day
You don’t need an elite prospect there
We need too many other things

Oh no I agree. I much rather go Surtain, Farley etc. I’m more than happy with Jarwin and Schultz!

I don’t know that surtain or Farley will be available
If we win next week they sure won’t
But a OT would be easier to justify than a TE
Normally a TE is a position I really like but with Cooper, Gallup, Lamb at WR I don’t think you need a great TE
With those guys at WR I could get open at TE lol

Taking Leatherwood only makes sense if Smith retires. I could get swayed into taking Sewell since he's the best OT prospect since Jake Long.

Leatherwood looks to be good as well, but not sure he's that can't miss prospect in round 1.

Not necessarily advocating for leatherwood but if you took a tackle you could slide Collins back inside and have a monster oline
Sewell I’d take in a heartbeat because to me he’s the best player in the draft
Obviously Sewell isn’t an option and if we win next week surtain and Farley won’t likely be an option
It could come down to an OT being the best player on the board and there is an option to start him day one by sliding Collins inside
But smith is getting a lot of miles on him though he’s not really old, Collins has an injury that may have long term issues. OT wouldn’t be my first choice unless it’s Sewell but I’d take an OT of good quality over say a TE

I use to think that until I realized who Leatherwood has taken on in his whole career just practice is loaded with NFL players. Then include SEC DEs & DTs like Garrett,Clowney,Allen,Chaisson,D.Brown,D.Hunter,Ojulari....Then National Title and Bowl Games....Christen Wilkens,Clennan Ferrell,Kwity Paye,Chase Young, etc.

I'm not against it depending on what other players are available.

Almost all elite NFL LTs in the modern era could play OG or RT if needed.

If Tyron comes back healthy, then a rookie could compete at OG or RT until Tyron either gets injured again or retires.

The Cowboys draft plan for their 1st round pick should be done in this order:
1: Focus on the Best Player
2: Consider position value
3: Consider Need

Best Player
If a player has a high probability of being an All-Pro or HoF type player and the other options don't, then draft that player regardless of need of position.

Position Value
LT, CB etc. have higher position value than off-ball LB or TE.
- They cost more in free agency and the elite ones are less often available in free agency.
- Off-ball LBs and RBs on average have shorter careers. Even when they have decent length careers, they tend to decline more than OLinemen and other positions with age.

Need
Fans/media obsess about current season team needs.
Good GMs tend to look a little further into the future.
If all teams focused on their need a year out instead of immediate need, there would be far fewer draft failures.
Rookies are historically hit or miss. Even many great NFL players didn't do much as rookies.
It is the 2nd year when draft picks are most likely to be big contributors based on historical averages.
The Cowboys situation on defense is not going to be solved for the 2021 season just by adding rookies.
There have to be some solid veteran players surrounding they young players.
The defensive scheme was new to everyone in 2020 and many players that did get playing time in this defense will be gone in 2021 (Awuzie, Lewis, etc.).

Leatherwood looks to be good as well, but not sure he's that can't miss prospect in round 1.

If you draft Leatherwood to immediately step in and be the starter, then no, you don't take him in the first. But Smith is on borrowed time, neck surgeries seldom result in a player returning to top form for many years. Give Leatherwood some reps in place of Smith, get him some coaching and put him in the weight room, and he could step in for Smith in 2022, if need be, or if Smith returns to form, he can fill in at guard or right tackle as needed.

Can't wait until a player is done before you draft his replacement most times, getting a continuous flow of new players to the team is the best way to go....
